When does school in your city start?

Our schools always start the week before Labor Day, which I think is dumb. They used to start the week after Labor Day but I guess those 5 extra days help if there's a lot of snow days.

I'm going to show my age and this story is no joke....When I went to school, they never closed for snow unless it was 5 feet deep. They would allow the rural kids to have off without a problem because of the danger driving on the roads but town kids were always supposed to show up. I had to go all the time, no matter what because my dad was a cop and "it isn't right if a cop's daughter doesn't make a good example." It was a 3 ft snow and school started at 8 a.m. It sure was lonely walking to school that day and the pavements weren't shoveled that early in the morning so I walked in the street until the snow plows came by. For what? Study halls all day because there were 5 kids in my class. Even town kids didn't show up. That was also the time when dress codes were strict and you had to wear skirts or dresses but you could wear snow pants under the dress and take them off when you got to school.

Some day I'm going to write my life's story so my kids and grandkids know exactly what I had to go through growing up. I know they won't believe me but it'll make me feel better. Those stories everyone laugh about the  kids having to walk a mile to school were basically true because I lived at one end of town and the school was on the other end of town, a mile and a half away.

Labor Day is late this year...as late as in can be, so it seems to make sense for schools to start before then....

The "Year 'Round" schools here started right before the end of July.  The "regular" schools started last week.

I, personally, think they're all nuts out here what with the dead heat of summer and temps being well over 100 degrees to start any of these kids so early.  At least if they waited until September, we'd have a cooling trend (LOL) in the 90's.  I don't miss the days where I walked my kids to and from school in 110 degrees at all.

Where do you live? And what exactly are "year around" schools (and how are they different than regular schools)??

Schools around my town started on Wednesday Aug 19th, they weren't happy about it lol. But I don't know why they are starting school so early I remember we didn't start school until September, but I guess with all the snow days we had they want to make sure they start early and not have to go so much into the summer.

Schools around my area starts Monday 8/24/2015. But that's only for the Elementary, I'm not sure about the middle and High Schools.

School started this past Monday, the 17th. I wish they didn't have to go back until Labor Day, but it's kind of nice that they build in the occasional half day and long weekend for them. Plus Thanksgiving they get a whole week now. When I was a kid we only got Thursday and Friday.

The school district my husband works at started yesterday.
I go to college, and my classes tarted Monday.

School started here  Monday right after the fair.  Hubby has already started subbing too Yea!!!!!.  Our FFA teacher had to be out of town as he went down south 400 miles and picked up $10,000.00 worth of  green chilli and brought it back for the FFA kids to roast and sell.  Sold out in one day.  Of course those that had pre ordered had to wait until the next day to get theirs. We preorder all the time. So spent Saturday peeling and chopping it Now it is in the freezer and  we are already getting into it today. Hubby just couldn't stand now having some so he is going to grill hamburgers tonight. And I do not have to cook Wow.

School starts here on Sept 3rd for my son. Some start a day before but they all do start before Labor Day.
