One night last week we had a horrible storm and lightning ran into our house via 2 different electrical outlets.  It fried our modem, our wifi router, our computer (all on 1 plug) and our kitchen range (on outlet by itself)  We've been in this house for 37 years and have never had these kinds of issues until about a year ago.  This is the 2nd time this has happened with the same 2 outlets.  Last time it didn't get to the computer though.  Anyway, I've had to replace everything and so far I have not found any explanation as to why this has happened.  Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?  Our local electricians won't even talk to you without charging an arm and a leg.

Wow, sounds like there is something outside that attracts the charge of the lightening. You might wanna look into where your lines are.

They are electricians.  No they won't do work for free.  They can't tell you anything without actually looking at the house.  Everything is expensive these days.  No one on here can really tell you anything either.  I don't think there is some big conductor bringing lightening into your house.
Are your computers on when the lightening runs in?  Use to everyone said if it is storming to unplug your computer and tv and stuff like that.  I realize no one does that any longer.

I always unplug my TV and computer when we get a storm in the area.  It was unplugged the night the lightning came in and cable guy said it got to my computer thru the modem/wifi router.  Had never unplugged those before but you can bet I do now. lol  I know electricians are in the business to make money but around here it is like extortion and I know that's not far to lump all electricians into that category.

I don't but I know people who have had similar experiences. Frightening!
