It's too early
« on: September 16, 2016, 07:40:59 am »
Hubby works in retail and texted me on his break and said they have him helping to set up CHRISTMAS decorations.  :snowflake:

As a former retail employee myself, I understand how this logic works in having it up so early, but I still hate it as much as most other people.

I work in retail as well.  We received a bunch of holiday table decor last week, but we aren't displaying it yet.  I am sure it won't be too long!!  It does seem like Christmas starts right after back-to-school.

I agree. It is way too early to even be thinking about Christmas at this point! Once November hits, then I can start getting into the holiday mood, but anything earlier just seems like a marketing scheme to make more money!

Yea seems ridiculous to me.  I mean it isn't even October yet.  Still have Halloween and Thanksgiving holidays to go.  Oh well its the way its done now so may as well not worry about it.   :pumpkin:       :turkey:      :snowman:

I don't work in retail, and never have. But it doesn't matter to me how early they bring out the Christmas decorations - it always makes me smile. I particularly like to have a look at the Christmas villages because they are so ornate and totally adorable. It also makes me start planning on what to buy. So I don't see it as a bad thing at all.

I like the hustle and bustle of shopping close to Christmas when it's cold and snowy!

It is too soon for me because it is still technically Summer time by my calendar. Stores have to make a profit so they start early. I kind of ignore it until at least November.

I do believe retailers have no regard for the real reason for the season.

They're only tuned in to their own bottom line. Sad.  :(

What's sad about giving your customers what they want? If this really helps their bottom line, it's obvious what the customer wants. Nothing wrong with that.

I don't get it. Perhaps this early decoration setup works on different groups of people. I find it very silly to have decorations for a holiday  put out any earlier then a month. The only retail shopping that I engage in is the grocery store.  If Costco delivered I would probably stop going there as well. I have bought all of my Christmas presents on line for the last three years. I really dislike having to park two miles away and then getting into lines that are fifteen people deep. Time is money and therefore very valuable to me. I start my list in August and then start buying things little by little. I have ordered seven presents already and plan on ordering several per week until the holiday gets here. I tend to put much more thought into gifts that I buy on line and I am able to shop around for the best price rather than being captive in a store and having to settle.

Uugh! I don't like seeing Halloween stuff out while I am still in my bathing suit and I don't like seeing Thanksgiving and Christmas items out while I am out trick or treating with my son! lol .... it's too commercialized!

I spent 30 yrs in retailing. Christmas merchandise started rolling in around July. We would set up  around now. Take it all down in January.
