I Told You So...

What has been the "told you so" moment when you just couldn't help yourself regarding saying this to a family member or friend.  For me, it was telling my then boyfriend to not buy a house so fast in a certain neighborhood and with a certain realtor.  I told him to slow down and look in other areas and think about the expenses of home ownership, but he wouldn't do it.  Even though he got the house at a good price, he was very unhappy with the neighborhood and with all the responsibilities of a homeowner, particularly after housing values crashed in 2008.  Long story short, he no longer owns that home today and claims he doesn't think he wants to ever own a home again based on this one experience.

Mine just happened recently. I've been telling my boyfriend for MONTHS that he should get a credit card. He is 24 years old and has no credit to his name. He recently applied for a new apartment and was denied because he had no credit. We had a big fight about why it is important but he brushed it off and did nothing about it. However, recently he was at the airport and his flight got cancelled which meant he needed a different flight to get back home too. So he cancelled the flight he booked to get home and had to purchase a new one that day that was really expensive. I think that is the moment he realized if for no other reason he should have a credit card for an emergency.

The best I told you so I had was the election .... with my stuffy neighbor lady.  One of those people who i'm sure was out marching. Getting in peoples faces. And setting things on fire.

Not sure where you live, but my house value crashed in 2008 and has tripled since then. Time has a huge effect on housing prices, which is why my $41,000 house bought in 1976 is now worth $350,000.

After looking at cars,  he should have gone to the lot where the man was wiling to work with him for about $3000 but instead went and purchased a high price jeep that his family wanted and now he has a high monthly car payment and is unable to pay his rent. I hope he don't end up living in his car.  Lesson learned is don't let your family talk you into getting something you can't afford especially if they are not going to make the payments.

I don't say "I told you so".  What is the point?  Just having to prove you were right?  I had a woman argue with me yesterday about something and she would not listen.  She would talk over top of me and she is calling the labor board because there are labor laws and she WILL FIND OUT.  All I could think is yes, you will find out.  No labor laws have been broken and you are wrong.  I even told her where to look up the information we were discussing.  Basically we have set hours we work.  She thinks she can show up for work and clock in 45 minutes early and get paid for it even though she just goes out side and smokes.  I am right, she is wrong, and when she figures that out - what good will it do to go to her face and say "I told you so"?  Who cares?

Well, aren't you the lucky one.  I live near the Michigan area where there is lead in the drinking water...Flint.  I don't live directly in Flint, but near it.  Flint also was badly affected about 15 years ago when it went from being a GM auto manufacturing hub to not so much.  Housing around here has never recovered.  My house was originally about $53,000 and it is worth not much more than that today.  At one time, around 1998, it was evaluated at $110,000.  I have wanted to get sick to my stomach at times but just try not to think about it too much.

I'm glad this question came at an opportune time.  Yes, I agree with you totally.  By his age, your boyfriend definitely needs to get his credit started.  I have children already graduated from college and made each them take out credit cards in their junior year with a credit limit of $500 to start.

I don't have "I told you so" moments with anyone anymore.  I've had my share of hurtful lessons that I had to learn for my own (in spite of others advice), and if there's anything that stings more than the "bruising" that comes with a painful lesson learned, it's the person that just has to say, "I told you so".   

If I give someone my opinion and they get a "bruising", I let it go and still be there for them.  Everyone is on a different journey through life and even though "you told them so", there was still a 50-50 chance things could have worked out differently for them.

People don't need to hear how "someone else was right"....they need to hear "it's okay, you tried & that's what counts,  life goes on".

Ahahahaha I told a ton of my friends that the Patriots were going to win and I guessed right! I quickly stood up and went TOLD YA SO!!!!! right to my friends faces who said the Falcons would win,  Don't get me wrong I was rooting for the Falcons but I already knew the Patriots would do something/cheat as far as I'm thinking to win.

I don't think "I told you so" is even in my vocabulary.  If I'm right; great. If I'm wrong, it is what it is. 

I don't like to rub things in people's noses; ever. If it's all in good fun; that's one thing. But if not, in my opinion, just don't go there.

A few years back I had to renew my license and had a clerk go off on a rampage because I was not working at the time.  The whole thing, lazy, living off the taxpayers. deadbeat.  He must have been having a really bad day.  Anyway, when I started my new job about 3 weeks later as supervisor of that DMV office, I did not have to say a thing to this employee, he could not do enough to make sure I was happy in my new job.  What is the old saying, be nice to the people you pass on the way up, they are the many of the same faces you see on the way down.
