I hate my job!
« on: August 29, 2017, 09:05:51 am »
I used to really like my job: good pay, really easy and interesting work. But a few months ago, I got excessed and moved to another job in another department (Which was totally unfair,  because I had far more time in that department than anyone else there, except my coworker that also got excessed. But the stupid union lets them get away with doing seniority by total time in the whole company, NOT in the department.) Now I really hate the job I'm on. It's very hard on my hands and wrists, and the hours are horrible. I still work second shift, but I start an hour earlier than before, so I lose an hour of doing things during the day. I'm constantly trying to scramble to eat lunch and leave for work, and sometimes I don't have time to take something for supper, or a snack at work, so then I have to buy something. I'm keeping track of all the money I'm losing by working this early shift. I want to quit, but unfortunately I just bought another vehicle, since my old one died, so now I have to keep working to pay for it.

Another catch 22 situation, and that's why people don't like unions 8)

Once I quit a job because they were doing a lot of stuff that was not fair. In less than 2 weeks they begged me to come back. with my experience , I  was holding the cards and I signed a contract that was to my liking and everything was good after that.

My friend is feeling the same: finally landed a job that seems great on paper, pays well, has benefits.  And after 5 months, she's not happy there at all because it's dull despite the perks so she's applying somewhere where she will take a heavy pay cut but appeals to her more.

Well, at least you have a job, hate it or not. Can you try putting in for transfers to another department?  Unions always go with company seniority, not department.  A lot of the unions anymore seem to have more cons than pros.  Good luck, and hang in there.

southernhorizons, I am sorry that the union allowed the transfer/exess from a job you really enjoyed to a different one that you do not like.  Doesn't seem like the Union  looks at the picture from the employee's "eyes".  I hope things improve for you as you adjust to the new shift time and work.

First, it sounds as though you certainly can't quit the job.  With or without the car it would not be a smart move to quit before another job offer.  So one thing you can do is look for another job.

Second, is there any other job at this company you can express interest in and possibly request another transfer?

Third, it sounds as if you're just not adjusted to the new time and you have some time management issues.  Sometimes we get so used to doing certain things a certain way and in a certain time period that it is difficult to make a change.  Look carefully at your scheduling both at home and at work and see what you need to change.

This may be a sign that you should move on to a new experience, you should not be living so unhappy!

What does excessed mean?  Not sure how you can not have time to fix something for your lunch.  Fix it on the week end for the entire week.  Or buy stuff at Walmart like packs of crackers or whatever.  Then you just have to throw it in a lunch box and go.

He worked for a union or a company that had a union.  There is a difference.  I know a pretty good sized company employees about 400 people in a small town.  They have a union.  The union is going to be the downfall of the company.  They company won't go under but they may sell the facility to another company or just shut down this one facility and move production to one of the other plants they have some where else in the United States.  Or even Mexico.  I can see why so many companies are moving to Mexico.
