Are gel manicures safe?

 A recent study found that the cumulative damage from the light frequencies the nail lamps emit can cause DNA damage to the skin that can result in premature aging and possibly cancer.

I love getting my nails done and gel lasts longer. Do you ladies still plan to get your nails done? I usually wait about 5 weeks to go to the salon and I will continue to get them done.

I don't have manicures done, so I'm not sure.

I like gel manicures, they last forever with no chipping.

I don't have time to have manicures & pedicures as often as I would like, so I usually just do my nails myself with a simple short manicure.... that way, I control the polish & grow out.

Pedicures I get every couple months, mostly because I get calluses on the bottom of my feet becaue I run... take care of your feet, your feet will take care of you

I take  care of my own nails, do not use any polish on them, and have not for 30 years  I had a fungus  that  got between my nails and skin and it took about a year to get it cleared up. so happens am allergic  to the ingredients in the polish and now with all of the knock offs who knows what is in the polish. To the runner I would suggest you  buy vick's vapor rub and rub it  into the  skin on your feet every night for awhile, you will be surprised how it softens them up. I do it about twice a week because I love to go barefoot and feet get dry with scales  if i don't take care of them. Also am on them a lot working .

All that nail salon stuff is bad for you. Not only is it toxic, but all that equipment is full of bacteria and fungi. I got my nails done years ago for my wedding. They looked nice but I hated them. Never again.

I have never had a gel manicure, but they look really nice. I only do my nails a couple of times a year when I want to look fancy. I just do them myself because I don't like to spend a lot of money and the salons are not always sanitary.

I wouldn't think any of them are safe. It stinks so bad in them salons that you can't breathe. I don't see how the workers stand to be in there all day with all them chemicals.
