Vaccines
« on: December 04, 2018, 05:13:54 pm »
Does anybody know if vaccines such as whooping cough are required for pregnant women? A person I work with said if a pregnant woman refused such vaccines she could be charged with child abuse. I didn’t argue but not sure how that can be when you can refuse vaccines for your kids.

I know they suggest the flu shot but they cannot force you to take the shot.

I seriously doubt it. The law doesn't even recognise a child in the womb as a person (in regards to abortion) these days, so it would be hard to get a conviction on "Child Abuse".

Well that is kind of what I thought. I also do not think you can force a mother to get a whooping cough vaccine if she has a newborn baby. They cannot even force parents to get vaccines for their children.

I just let it go but the woman who was saying it is off her rocker.

I agree with your logic above, but consider the perverted logic in the scenario where it is an invasive fetus if the mother gets an abortion, yet if a person shoots and kills a pregnant woman, s/he is sometimes charged with two counts of murder if both the mother and the baby die.  Where is the continuity?

When my daughter was pregnant I saw on TV that anyone who was around babies should take the whooping cough vaccine.  Since I was going to be keeping her baby while she worked, I took the vaccine.

wow,,,  I have no idea abut that.  I would never turn down a vaccine if it was perscribed for me.  I'm still waiting for the new shingles vaccine.  No one around Ohio has this.

I have only heard this recently. If you have a baby then you better keep it in a bubble at home because you cannot force everyone in public to take this "vaccine" which we don't even know if it is safe.  I am not against all vaccines but there seem to be more and more and more and more that they want adults to go back and take.  And if they would stop the illegals from invading the country most of them would not even be necessary.

So you run get every vaccine that a doctor or who ever says you should get? Just curious. I have never had the flu shot nor have I had the flu. Almost every person I know who takes that shot gets sick most of them WITH THE FLU!

Not me!  :P  But then again, you don't know me so I wouldn't qualify for your list of "almost every person you know"...  ;)

I remember one parent when we were enrolling our daughter into kindergarten who was militantly anti-vaccine to the point of almost getting into a fight with school officials and other parents attending an orientation meeting. *Nobody was going to force her to give those evil shots to her daughter and the other parents were just going to have to deal with it!* Rather than rationally stating her case for choosing to not vaccinate her daughter - I think she knew that the majority (i.e. everyone else in the room) were of the opposite opinion and she just assumed she would be attacked for it and so she figuratively came out swinging.

I try to respect people and their opinions when they are different from mine, but I lost all respect for this mother when she really gave no one the chance to be understanding or supportive of her parenting choices.

In the end, I don't know if her kid ever got sick from any of the typically vaccinated diseases. But now into the sixth grade, she left to go to another school after fifth grade. I can't say that I am disappointed...

This is true. lol. Several people from church last year got the shot and then got the flu.

I am not anti-vaccine but do not agree with all of them. I was forced to take an MMR in 1999 to take some courses at a community college. I got deathly sick and was sick for 2 weeks. And yes it was from this evil shot that I did not need.  I have read where they are wanting to start vaccinating against polio and stuff like that again and adults who didnt have the shot as a child need to get it.  NO KEEP THE ILLEGALS OUT and stop them from bringing their diseases in to our country.

I honestly don't see why people get so upset about parents who do not vaccinate and want to keep their kid away from the non vaccinated kid.  If YOUR kid is vaccinated then they are safe....right?

In the area I live in, not too far from me, they are having some issues with TB amongst the illegals. And yep we are paying for it because they get free health care.

I don't think any company you work for can make shots mandatory, and for a pregnant woman, that seems like something only the dr can tell you.

whooping cough   ????  i have in 60 years never heard of any one i know getting whooping cough  or any one for a matter of fact,  flu shot only work 17%  if cars only worked 17% or celll phones we'd change something.  I have never had a flu shot, . and never had the  flu , but i played in the dirt when i was little . Kids are never exposed to stuff to build there bodys stong any more.  What really drives me nuts is the shots for our pets.. Rabies is a law,   but the fact a 150 pound great dane gets the same dose shots,  BY LAW   as a 5 pound Yorkie , Vets are killing animals with this stupid law. It also happens with all shot for dogs.  My moms dog started to have seizures after her rabies shot.

You either did not read what I said or totally misunderstood. Has nothing to do with the company I worked for. An IDIOT CO WORKER was arguing. Doctors as far as I do know recommend anyone who will be around newborns to get the whooping cough but it is not mandatory. As far as I know NONE of the vaccines are mandatory to live in this country.

I most likely would NOT take the vaccine if I were pregnant.  This woman said in her condescending I am right and you are wrong tone "well then you can be charged with neglect and child abuse".  I do not know for 100% sure but am pretty sure this information is incorrect.  Besides that you can't force the entire country to take the vaccine and you are around others all the time with your newborn.

And companies CAN make certain shots mandatory.  If you work in health care or some child care they can force you to take the flu shot or have in the past until maybe people bucked on it.

I do not take the flu shot although the job I have been on the past two years they tried to make me take it.  And I would not take any of the other vaccines that they are coming back and saying adults need to take.

Well I never paid attention to the size of the rabies shot but all my dogs were always about the same size. If I ever have another dog (which I doubt I will) I will ask my vet about that.

My dog had some serious treatments about 4 months ago.  He ended up dying anyway but I keep having a gnawing thought that the treatment is what killed him.  But I need to put that out of my mind.

Back to the OT...

Whopping cough use to be a thing in the US.  Did it not?  It is making a come back.  It does have a presence here now.  And it is being brought in my the illegal boarder hoppers.  But that, again, is another argument completely....

Like I said a few posts back there is some issue a couple counties over from me with TB.  This is not rumor and I was told by someone who probably was not suppose to tell me.  She said it is mostly among the hispanic population or those in direct contact with them.  TB is not something we have had to worry about in the US for a long time either. There are several diseases we eradicated a long time ago that are making a come back.

Going back to my orig thoughts I really don't think a woman could be charged with child abuse because the mother did not take a whopping cough vaccine.
