not what you may think
« on: April 22, 2019, 07:48:33 pm »
My son gave a man who had a dog and looked homeless dog food can and a slim jim for himself. This was outside a 711. When he did this 2 or 3 guys said don't give him anything he works for waste disposal a garbage company and makes 70,000 a year. He just walked away. Now my son has seen this guy many times walking with his dog. You never know what to believe anymore. Heard of this before its to bad for people who really need a handout.

Your son did a good deed from the heart.  He received a special blessing for doing so.  People who don't need handouts shouldn't take them.
Have a wonderful day!

Regardless of whether the man and his dog were  homeless or not, your son did a nice thing and you should be proud of him that he has compassion for people that seem in need of a little help.

He looked homeless?  What does that even mean?  Did the guy have a sign asking for food or money?

There are people in my area who have plenty of money (I done something to help one once) and they play the game to get people to pay for things for them.

I have no problem giving food to those asking for hand outs. At Christmas I give presents that were purchased from charities(purchase benefits the charity) that I volunteered at. I usually aim for hats, sweatshirts or blankets. I put a five dollar food card in each Christmas card, attach it to the gift item (from a charity) and encourage the recipient to find a needy person in the following year with which to re-gift the present. I try to avoid handing cash to anyone because it can be used for vices. I do not stand in judgement of those asking for assistance but I gear my gift towards nourishment. There was an article about 'needy' people getting up to seventy thousand dollars a year, tax free, from well wishers. Two weeks ago, in a local grocery store, a woman in front of mewas paying for her groceries with food stamps and came up eleven dollars short. I promptly paid the shortage and wished her a happy Easter. I try to keep an eye open for opportunities to help.

Your son did a great thing. Whether or not the man really worked, he probably appreciated your sons generosity.

I'd rather give to someone who doesn't need it, than miss giving to someone who does.
Your son did good.

 >:(   >:(    >:(   Stories like this really make me angry.  My mom got burned trying to help people like this but giving them money so she started only giving them food.  Then one day she realized she forgot something and came around the block and saw a guy throwing away the food she bought him.  I give up but I agree with the person who posted that your son will receive a special blessing for giving out of his heart.  It sucks that people are such faker takers.

This selfless act of kindness should be applauded no matter what the circumstances.  Your boy is a good person.

Do not give them money because they will buy drugs that can harm them.
I think you did well. Next time, ask what him what do you want for lunch?
Then, just say "so lunch is on me".

I was working at my daughter's convenience store the other night.  A lady came in and paid for her gas.  After she pumped her gas she came back in because there was a guy on the lot trying to sell a book he wrote about himself because he needed gas to get back to New York.  She paid $10 for gas and another lady was saying she shouldn't do that because he was probably conning her.  She said she was doing what the Lord led her to do and if he was conning her then that was on him.  I admire her for doing this.

I agree with what folks have said about not giving cash.  I also agree with folks that have said your son did a great random act of kindness.  Doesn't matter what other people told him about the man, what matters is what was in your son's heart.  What I do is keep baggies in my car that are filled with random items that I have picked up at the dollar store, a pair of socks, toothbrush and toothpaste.  A pack of gum or mints.  A hat maybe a washcloth or towel.  I just walk around the dollar store and pick up items I feel might be helpful to a homeless or needy person.  I also try to keep some kind of dog food or dog treats to add to the baggies if I see someone with a dog.
