When I was young, my parents always had black eyed peas. They claim this is for good luck for the year. Each year, I fix this with sides.

For NYE, prepared baked chicken thighs, Bourbon glazed carrots, fresh black-eyed peas and cabbage with ham.  I made a fudge pie, but didn't bake it long enough.  Ugh!  It tastes great, but it's not supposed to be oozing liquid chocolate in the center.  I call that a "test kitchen" pie because I used a recipe clipping from a very old newspaper that did not indicate how much time to bake the pie.

We didn't have anything special for New Year's Eve, just lentil and mushroom gravy over mashed potatoes from a recipe my youngest son found online. But per our tradition, we had pork chops, rutabaga, black-eye peas, cornbread, and collard greens for supper today, New Year's Day. I guess it's an old tradition about the greens bringing luck for getting dollar bills and the peas bringing luck for getting coins. All I know for sure is it's delicious and I look forward to this feast every year!  :peace:

Nothing special for New Years Eve dinner just pork chops.  However on New Years day it is always steak and lobster

When the kids were younger and still living in our house, my hubby used to make little pizzas on English muffins on New Year's Eve and we used to all wait up for the ball to drop and eat little pizzas. It was fun but now that we are old, and the kids are grown, we generally fall asleep before the ball drops.

The last of last year's Omaha steak gift. I had two steaks left from June when we ordered and held 2 of them until NYE.  Boy, that was hard. Go to the freezer and everytime I looked at the box, I drooled. :D  They were the best we've had from Omaha in years. We had a lot of problems with Omaha's steaks Anyway, had baked potatoes with it. We used to have surf and turf (steak and lobster) but a decent 10-oz. size lobster was was $23! He went to bed at 11; I was up watching 3D's on Food Network (love that show). Missed the ball drop but it's no big deal. I'm surprised to be awake that late.  :D :D :D

I had to laugh when I saw your post because that is exactly what I had.  In fact, I had 2 of them.  For one, I spent New Year's Eve at home by myself, and secondly, was waiting to get my new stove delivered January 2 so food needed to be microwaveable!
