Obesity and the Coronavirus
« on: April 03, 2020, 06:23:13 am »
Well, another underlying condition that can affect getting the coronavirus and it being severe is obesity. If you are stuck at home right now and have a tendency to be overweight, please try to watch what you eat and how much and often you eat.  I know food is a comfort to many, but obesity in the U.S. has become a huge issue.  I, too, am trying to not eat out of boredom.  I have been getting up and exercising some of the time, either on my treadmill, up and down the stairs a certain number of times, or today, which is sunny and near 60, outside for a few minutes.  That sun feels so good!  Better than a donut!!! LOL!

I've lost weight too...I eat what I normally eat and walk outside most days. It obviously helps that we can't dine out right now.

I've lost a few pounds too. It's because we aren't going to the supermarket nearly as often as we used to, so we run out of goodies like cookies and cakes for dessert. Instead we've been having healthy desserts like strawberries with whipped cream or other fresh or dried fruits which do not pack on the calories nearly as much as our usual fare.

You don 't necessarily have to gain weight unless you are binging everyday.  Other than that I think you can easily lose weight.

I have lost weight too....I think because I'm drinking more water, sleeping more, and cutting back on how much I eat....I suppose that this might be a good side to the virus....

    Obesity:
What works: Avoid all junk food!
What works against: Eating junk food.

This is good advice!   I was reading Louisiana CoronaVirus death rate is 7x that of New York City because in part to their diet - 97% of those who have died have pre-existing conditions --> 40% of those who died are obese & 25% have diabetes.

I've lost 3 pounds since the quarantine without even trying & not doing any major exercise. I forgo some food, esp desert, so my family could have more & our food supply can last without much discomfort to them until I begin shopping again.

Stay safe & healthy everyone :)

Since the first of the year, I gave up drinking soda and having junk food. Once in a while I have a cheat meal like a calzone or pizza but most of what I eat is low in calories and low fat. I lost 20 pounds since the first of the year.

I started off eating snacks then stopped and now it's a trail mix, cashew nuts, and a brownie. I will not go overboard though!

I don't eat out.  I think I am eating less and stressed.  I am trying to watch the news less and consumer less because this is driving me crazy.

People are gaining weight because they are home and can't get out and do anything and go to work. So they sit in front of the tv and eat.

I have lost a couple of pounds but being home for work it harder than being at the office so we have not purchased any junk food or sweets.  Which is helping.
