When you parents are sick or in  recovery of cancer or surgery? What is the best way to help your parents out?

I will never forget what my grandmother told me before she died. She said she would rather have a 10 minute visit every day than an hour a week.

In addition to being there, offer to help do chores, errands, cooking, etc.  My parents are getting older, but not recovering from any illnesses.  I help with yard work and other chores, as it is becoming too much work for just the the two of them.  It's the least I can do, when I consider all of the time they devoted to me when I was a youngster.  Leaf raking is forthcoming and I know that they will have well over 100 bags worth of leaves to rake!

Love is more important than gifts, cards are more important than gifts, gifts are more important than hatred, hatred is more important than no emotion...

Before my mom passed 3 years ago, I was there everyday to take care of her no matter what was called for or what it took.  She could not do for herself, so I did it.  This is what she did for me and my brothers and sisters when we were babies until we became grown ups.  Its not asking too much for all the sacrifice that she did for us.

She was my best friend and I miss her everyday.

be there for them. help them with what you CAN.

i am in the medical field, and there are a lot of people who feel they can fully take on the responsibility of caring for a family member or dear friend when that person can no longer care for themselves. sometimes they realize it's too much, and they end up burnt out, frustrated, and don't enjoy their time with the person anymore...which is the most important thing.

if your parent is going to need long-term care, offer to do it all or as much of it as you can, if you can handle it, without compromising your own peace at mind, health, or accomplishments. if not, it doesn't make you any less of a good child to get some help.

i wish you and your family the best of luck!

We should always take care of our elders, they took care of us, it is our time to give back, plus God takes care of us.

I am just going to say the same thing as everybody else. You should be there with what you can. Try to visit them everyday or at least weekly if you can not daily.
