Goya boycott
« on: July 12, 2020, 10:16:36 am »
There is a Goya boycott starting.  Not to sound stupid but does anyone know what this is about?  I just heard about it, but there was no reason given for the boycott.

The CEO went to the WHITE House and was saying how wonderful he thought the president was.  A lot of Hispanic people did not appreciate after all the the nasty things the president has said about them.  Goya is predominately for  making Mexican foods.

Thank you.  Like I said there is this big thing now about boycotting them, but I had no idea why.

Nobody is going to boycott anything. People like to run their mouth. Most of the people screaming they will never buy their products have never bought them any way.

Basically they support the President of the United States and were vocal about it and some pansies can't handle it. Just the next big thing. Give it a week and it will be something else.

According to Fox news and CNN the Goya boycott stems  from Chief Executive Robert Unanue stating the "we are truly blessed...to have a leader like President Trump" during an announcement of the White House Prosperity initiative (which does not really spell out prosperity for hispanics-deals mostly with small businesses, education and employment). Unanue seems to have forgotten that the president had attacked immigrants from Mexico and Central America, labeling them as criminals and rapists. Unanue's memory seems to have overlooked the poor response to Puerto Rico during Hurricane Maria. Did Unanue miss out on the repeated attempts to repeal the Deferred Action fr Childhood Arrivals, building of the wall or the current push to expel all immigrants that are forced to do classes on line rather than expose them selves to viruses in the class room? Goya has revenue of 1.5 billion so a boycott is unlikely to have a large affect, but should serve as an example for other Chief executive officers (Unanue will, most likely, be dismissed) in understanding their consumer base.

Thank you.  You explained it well.  I myself will stop buying Goya products.  I have bought them often too.  My parents came from Mexico.  Unlike Trump's parents, my parents passed the citizenship the first time around.

I also heard there's a Goya BUYcott, asking people to go out and buy Goya products to donate to those in need.

I'm so sick and tired of all this BS where someone else can't have an opinion that differs from yours, so you think it's ok to go ahead and destroy someone's life or livelihood. Quit your tantrums and grow the F up. ::)

I for one will not buy GOYA products at my Spanish Store either.  You can have your personal opinion about someone, good or bad, I don't care.  But I come from an Central America Country I did not appreciate that my family and me were called rapists and criminals and that the President does not care for Immigrants, even though his family was immigrant at on point on the past.  The only true and pure North Americans are the Natives and they are treated as bad as any foreignere.

lol Most of the people saying they will boycott probably never bought that brand any way.  I have never purchased it that I can recall. As far as buying and donating to a food pantry - I am not sure what the point is. It is like it is suppose to be funny.  Nobody cares. I agree with you on people trying to destroy other people's life. It is like the thread I started where people are finding where somebody makes some random comment online then makes it public (even if the comment was made years ago) or rags on somebody until they finally react and video it and put that online and cause the person to get fired. It is ridiculous.

Yeah because that is the only brand you can purchase. Here is a little FYI there are a lot of CEOs that support Trump and that are Republican! If people are this stupid they can starve.

I am sure they will not miss your buying a couple cans of their products a month.

He did not say everyone was a rapist or a criminal. He said some were. And SOME are! He also has no issue with IMMIGRANTS. The issue is with ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS!  And if you came here legally and done things the right way it should make you mad to see people waltzing across the border and expecting to have everything handed to them for free. I have a friend who is from South of the Border and he is upset with the illegals and he is FOR building the WALL.  His family done things the right way.

One thing I, and many others, have realized is that these "boycotts" usually have a lifespan of 72 hours on social media & then people are on to the next company to be outraged about... Bath & Body Works is being "boycotted" now as well - that one lasted probably less than 24 hours on social media. Now the outraged have moved on, probably to something Trump misspelled on a Tweet.

I don't buy Goya products, but went out of my way to purchase their brand last Friday at Ralphs- coconut water, plantain chips, & split peas for soup.  Goya is a good company that contributes a lot of product to the needy, facts that were posted on social media during the "boycott".  Not so sure other companies step up as much as Goya, but glad to know that now. :)
