Allergic to Rice
« on: August 12, 2020, 11:29:52 pm »
I found out a few years ago that I am allergic to rice. My allergy Dr asked me if I ate a lot of Chinese food and I said I enjoyed eating it from time to time. I love rice especially Jasmine rice and I'm disappointed that I'm allergic. I eat it still sometimes and itch. But I try to stay away from it as well. If I eat it , it's just a moderate amount.

Just because you eat chineese food and then itch does not mean you are allergic to rice.  Sounds to me more like you may be allergic to the MSG that chineese food is famous for.  A lot of people are allergic to that.  If you can eat a moderate amount of it and be fine then you are not allergic to it.

i had never heard anybody allergic to rice, have you tried different kinds, CG might be right and you are just allergic to MSG or something else.  Try Basmati Rice, Brown Rice or even rice like Goya or Mahatma, see if you get reaction to those and then you can determine if is the rice or some sort of preservative that has been added.

That is sad to hear, I love brown rice; hopefully if you eat it in moderation and not frequently your reaction won't be so bad; but if it is you may have to just give it up. :(

Thanks I will try what you suggested. When my allergy dr told me I was surprised. Like you said the MSG is probably what im allergic to.

A lot of Chinese food esp on buffet bars they sprinkle MSG on the veggies and stuff to keep them looking fresh and bright. A lot of people are allergic to it. But if it is in something like (chicken base, which is a paste) and cooked it does not bother them.  Glad I could help.  At least if it is MSG you can make your own Chinese food at home!

And it would probably be better.  At our Walmart they have the little roll sheets used to make egg rolls in the department with the veggies (it is where the veggie meat stuff is).  I have bought those before and made all kinds of things.

Wow I would like you hate to be allergic to rice because I love rice.  I wonder if I have developed an allergy to something though because over the last several months I have been itching like crazy.  Well I am like you would probably eat rice and just suffer through the itching.

That's funny! When I get the taste for it, I eat it anyways and suffer through the itching

I love eating rice. I eat it almost every week. I would miss eating rice so much, If I could not eat it anymore.
