Our Oceans
« on: October 05, 2020, 05:52:48 pm »
Every year, 8 million metric tons of plastics enter our ocean, with an estimated 150 million metric tons currently circulating in our marine environments.  Plastic bags and straws wind their way into gutters, and large amounts of mismanaged plastic waste stream from growing economies and end up in the ocean.  It's like dumping one New York City garbage truck full of plastic into the ocean every minute of every day for an entire year!

This tide of plastic can and must be reversed.  Single use plastics must be all but outlawed/banned.  Use reusable straws at home.  Shop species which are sustainable when you want seafood.  Demand stores quit using plastic bags.  Start local, go state, and then move to the federal level.  It is time our government set an example and start saving our planet rather than removing regulation after regulation for anything environmental so that big money can become bigger, easier money.

It is so sad how we have contaminated our home.  (the Planet)  I don't know what convivences I am willing to give up to save it.  I do get so aggravated with the amount of trash that leaves this house on a weekly basis.
I recycle or reuse most every thing but it has to go sometime.

I agree with almost everything you said in your post except for the item quoted above. Not just plastic - we try to recycle everything metal, plastic, or cardboard in our house in effort to keep it out of the landfills. But I don't believe it is the responsibility of the government to impose/police that.

It's horrible.  I don't understand people who litter.

Thanks for sharing. My son is learning about bottled water, plastic waste, and ocean conservation now. It's amazing to read articles about how ocean waste, primarily plastic, is damaging the ecosystem, such as that for humpback whales for example. We all have a responsibility to help reduce the problem.

Isaiah 11:6-9 6The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them. 7The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. 8The infant will play near the cobra's den, and the young child will put its hand into the viper's nest. 9They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.

A far cry for what the earth is today. But if God has spoken this,it will come to pass.
