A D-Day veteran arrives to watch the official opening of the British Normandy Memorial in France via a live feed, during a ceremony at the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas, England, on Sunday.

Allied forces land on Normandy beaches, June 6, 1944 On this day in 1944, some 160,000 American, British and Canadian soldiers came ashore along a 50-mile stretch of a heavily fortified French coastline to engage the occupying German force on the beaches of Normandy.

The new monument pays tribute to those under British command who died on D-Day and during the Battle of Normandy. Visitors stood to salute the more than 22,000 men and women, mostly British soldiers, whose names are etched on its stone columns. Giant screens showed D-Day veterans gathered simultaneously at Britain's National Memorial Aboretum to watch the Normandy event remotely. Prince Charles, speaking via video link, expressed regret that he couldn't attend in person.

On June 6, 1944, "In the heart of the mist that enveloped the Normandy Coast ... was a lightning bolt of freedom," French Defense Minister Florence Parly told the ceremony. "France does not forget. France is forever grateful."

As we move further away from the day it is important to remember those who died.

They totally knew why and gave their lives for their love of God and country.

Shame on you for supposing they knew not why they died or suffered.  :-[

And shame on you for not knowing what Jesus said Re all those that draw the sword will die by it.

You of all people to praise the country now when all you do is bad mouth the government.

Yeh they died for god.Did you know Satan is referred to as a god in the bible?2 Corinth 4...try reading it

I passed my army physical in 1970 with flying colors. My birthday lottery kept me from going to Vietnam.I was fortunate.

If i knew then what i know now RE Jesus and what he said RE sword.......i woulda gladly went to jail.

Love of god and country?LOL!!!

I remind you Jesus said to Pilate,my kingdom is NO part of this world and the whole world lies in power of wicked one.

Wake up!!

The country should be ashamed sending these poor soldiers to their sufferings and deaths.

I saw a show how brainwashed the soldiers were in Vietnam how they killed the Vietnamese woman and children.

God  and country??????????????

LOLLLLLLLLLL!!!

One nation under god might be correct...but it isnt the TRUE God who is Jehovah.

Go read the bible and see Satan offered him all the kingdoms of the world for an act of worship.Jesus told him Jehovah ONLY deserves that and  to get lost!!

I think its time to examine your religeon.

The Smothers Bros knew as early as 1967 what a joke Vietnam was.

Pay attn to how Dickie Smothers intros this tribute to the fallen soldiers......

https://youtu.be/wNPScIChvhk

The Smother Bros would soon be thrown off the air for exposing the government and this song contributed to that.

Again i count my blessings i didnt have to go to a hot jungle and go thru that.

Imagine you are told to go there so N Viet wants to turn S.Viet into communism.

Can you even imagine the sadness of the parents who lost someone not even 20 yrs old yet over nonsense?

Then U have the blindness continue right here that say they knew and died for god and country?LOLLLLLL!!!

Many of them that died REALLY did die for God before they did an act of worship to Hitler.

They remembered what Jesus told Satan when Satan asked Jesus for an act of worship......to take a hike and only Jehovah deserves that.Jesus proved his integrity up to death as well.

Jesus showed under more trying conditions Adam could have loved and obeyed his Creator and God wasnt wrong asking A&E for their love and obedience.

Many say God loves me unconditionally, but thats not true. His rules must be met and they are for the good of mankind as we have seen the last 6000 yrs rulership apart from him DOESNT work.

IOW there are conditions.
