Sounds like you came back in time to catch a couple of dog thiefs from taking your furbaby. You did the right thing. Be honest people in general aren't as trust worthy as they used to be. Always good to be vigilant

No I don't think that is okay.  No one that you don't know should ever go up to your vehicle and just try to open the door.  They should have asked to pet him and not try to open the door.

Just the fact that they tried to open the door would tell me, no they are not going to pet this doggie, I wouldnt trust them at all .

No, it wasn't ok.  I remember a few years ago a woman tried to open my door to tell me she didn't want the parking spot I was trying to get and wanted to get around.  I thought that was very rude and it could've caused a fight-especially during that time in my life.  It's good your door was locked.
