It is most definitely illegal because if you are paid under the table you don't pay social security or taxes.  It makes it bad for everyone else that does pay the taxes.

I would say it is technically illegal, but so that would make it illegal for all the illegal aliens that work here and don't pay taxes. That is a huge problem.
