do you recycle? I feel bad because where I live now they do not have the program.  :BangHead:

Absolutely!  Our city has a very convenient curbside recycling program.  We have a 90 gallon tote on wheels which we can put all our recyclables in; no need for sorting.  The facility does it!  They also take quite a few different items.

For the items they won't take, like aluminum foil, scrap metal, and electronics, we take those to our local facility or drop-off location.  Items such as oils and chemicals we have bi-yearly hazardous waste days we dispose of them.  And items like CFLs and batteries have very convenient drop-off locations in our city.

Whatever we can compost we compost in our vegetable garden.  Ultimately, we have very little waste in our household.  Actual waste which can't be recycled ends up being about 26 tall kitchen bags a year.

Yes we recycle.

Our town supplies each household with two containers...one for glass, plastic, tin, aluminum and one for paper and cardboard.

Weekly the city picks up our containers that we set out on the curb.  It is very handy and helpful.

I try, it is stupid because apartment complexes do not have any recycling bins and there is a ton of trash that comes out of them, so I don't understand why the city wouldn't have them.  Plus people throw out all of their good stuff that can still be used.  I also retrieve it and give it away to needy people.  Also, a Safeway near me just put up this machine that recycles cans and pays you so it is all automated and we don't have to drive far at all.  The other stuff I just put in my da's recycle trash at the house since they have those blue trash cans there.  I try to reuse things if I can, like glass jars from salsa or whatever, and boxes.  I give away food that I know my family will not eat.  Stuff like that, but it bugs me that there are no type of recycle bins here.  Not even like one big one for the entire complex at least, there is room for them too.

Like the poster two posts before me, I would recycle some things if my apartment complex did the recycling thing. Instead, I do the best I can to donate things to Goodwill, by paper more than, and use cloth shopping bags. We use energy efficient bulbs and appliances, and I drive a moped to save gas and the planet (100 mpg.) So we're no recycling angels, but we do what we can without having to go to extremes.

We have a huge one-sort bin which is the same size as our garbage bin.  Super easy here.

I've been an avid recycler since '95, but it is harder if you live in an area that has not embraced the program yet. I'm a big fan of the machines that pay folks for their cans, and think that that adds an incentive for those who might otherwise pack the landfills with them.

I try to recycle but don't get far with it.  The area where I live doesn't offer it as part of the normal trash pickup.  I do take advantage of the area "household hazardous" waste days but find that I don't have the space to save up things like cans, plastic bottles to collect to take to the nearest recycler.  I will keep trying though.  It drives my sister-in-law nuts that I don't!

I used to recycle all the time! Now it's more of just papers and those simple things.
