Yes they are. There calendar is not real at all. The world will end when Jesus comes for the 2nd time. That could be anytime. The leader of the Mayans even said the calendar is not true and it is bullcrap.

I don't think that it would be the end of the world by the year 2012, since something similar was going to happen on the year 2000, but it didn't happen. We are still alive and we are on 2009, right now.

the mayans were accurate, but not always, im not a scholar but i know change will occur but nothing too drastic, and
even if it was the the end in 2012, dont worry about it, enjoy your life 2day, because tommorow isnt promised.

What is most apparent to me in this thread is the fact that those posting as authorities on this subject have very obviously absolutely no clue as to what the Mayan (and Hopi) prophecies predict.

The Mayans have publicly stated that the calendar just ran out.  I am believer that the world will end someday but only the "manufacturer" will know when it is time for His goods to "expire".  Heard that in church this weekend and thought that I would share it.

I don't believe the world is going to end on December 21st, 2012. According to some it does mark a date however. It marks the date of the start of something that could shake up this whole world.
