I logged onto my affiliate account and found out it was closed the other day. After I researched it, I found out that three states have passed legislation that forces Amazon...and other affiliate companies to pay sales tax if affiliates refer a sale in a specific state. Amazon has a lawsuit against the state of New York on the grounds that this law is unconstitutional.
I don't blame Amazon for refusing to pay the sales tax...in my state, there are different tax rates in a lot of the countys which would make it very difficult to even figure out the tax...
Overstock has also refused to do this...What do you think? Amazon would say that affiliates are not selling, just advertising and referring...they never even know who their customers are.....It seems to me to be a money grab from the states! I mean, most products have probably never even been near the state that is demanding the sales tax!...very unfair.
