Off-Topic / Not Again! Stop the Moves to Dismantle Unemployment Insurance!
« on: January 30, 2012, 11:47:00 pm »Message ID: 482762
Dear American's,

Send a Message to Conference Committee Congress narrowly averted cutting off millions of Americans from unemployment insurance when it passed a stopgap two-month extension just before the holidays.  But that extension is set to expire at the end of February, so millions of unemployed workers are again at risk of losing their federal unemployment insurance -- unless Congress acts to fully renew the program through 2012.

You would think that a simple enough task, right?

But right now, a 20-member Congressional conference committee is set to take that up -- and House Republicans are expected to push for dismantling unemployment insurance, with drastic cuts in benefits and draconian new barriers to jobless workers' access to their unemployment insurance.

Send an urgent message to all 20 members of the Congressional conference committee.  Tell them:  Fully Renew Unemployment Insurance for 2012 -- No Cuts, No Barriers to Benefits! http://www.nelp.org/page/speakout/renew-unemployment-insurance-2012?nocdn=1

Among reckless and mean-spirited measures being pushed under the guise of "reform" by House Republicans in their version of H.R. 3630:

* Slashing federal unemployment insurance, cutting benefits more than half in highest unemployment states
* Imposing mandatory drug testing of unemployment insurance claimants
* Making jobless workers pay for their reemployment services
* Denying benefits to workers who were not fortunate enough to finish high school or GED
* Letting states reduce benefits and divert unemployment benefit funds to other uses

Send an urgent message to all 20 members of the Congressional conference committee.  Tell them:  Fully Renew Unemployment Insurance for 2012 -- No Cuts, No Barriers to Benefits. http://www.nelp.org/page/speakout/renew-unemployment-insurance-2012?nocdn=1

Prior to the holidays, tens of thousands of you helped send earlier messages to Congress and made thousands of calls -- all of which helped keep the House leaders' drastic cuts and barriers to benefits from being brought up in the Senate.  Right now, we need a massive remobilization to finish the job -- and send a message that says we must not only renew unemployment insurance through 2012, but also provide real meaningful job programs and reemployment tools for all the many millions of unemployed workers, including those who have exhausted federal unemployment insurance.

Please send an urgent message to all 20 members of the Congressional conference committee.  Tell them:  Fully Renew Unemployment Insurance for 2012 -- No Cuts, No Barriers to Benefits. www.nelp.org/page/-/uew/images/UIDemo_hires.jpg?nocdn=1

Many thanks.

Off-Topic / Please Send a Message to Your Members of Congress - Help the Unemployed
« on: December 11, 2011, 06:46:02 am »Message ID: 459578
Hello, FC Community Members

Congress is facing a year-end deadline to renew the current federal unemployment insurance extensions, and so far they've done nothing.  If Congress fails to act, millions of unemployed job-seekers will be prematurely cut off from this vital lifeline in 2012.  Nearly 2 million jobless Americans will be cut off of these benefits in January alone, and more than 6 million during the coming year.

I've just sent a message to my Members of Congress telling them to renew the unemployment insurance program, and urging them to enact measures to help avert more layoffs, create good jobs and get real help to long-term unemployed workers including those who have exhausted unemployment benefits.

Please join me in sending that message to Congress here:

Many thanks.

Off-Topic / How We Can Put A Stop to High Gas Prices
« on: March 12, 2011, 04:49:07 am »Message ID: 325260
Please read this entire idea PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE...

Dropping Gas Prices:

This is not the “Don’t Buy Gas for a Day”, but it will show you how we can get gas prices back down to $2.00 per gallon.

If you are tired of the gas prices going up AND they will continue to rise this summer, take time to read this please.

Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea.

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the “don’t buy gas on a certain day” campaign that was going around a couple of years ago.

It’s worth the consideration. Join the resistance!!!

I hear we are going to hit close to $5.00 a gallon by Memorial Day, and it might go higher!! Want gas prices to come down?

We need to make some intelligent, united action. The oil companies just laughed at that because they know we wouldn’t continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy gas.

It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them, BUT, whoever thought of this idea has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read on and join with us!

By now you’ve probably thinking gasoline priced at $2.00 is super cheap. Me too!

It is currently $3.59 for regular unleaded in my town.

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations has conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50-$1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace not the sellers.

With the prices of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the prices of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.

How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can’t just stop buying gas, But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here’s the idea! For the rest of this year, DON’T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest (Which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL.

If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It’s really simple to do! Now don’t wimp out on me at this point…..Keep reading on and I’ll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

This note was sent to 30 people. If each of us send it to at least 10 more (30x10=300) and those 300 send it to at least 10 more (300x10=3000) and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers. If those three million get excited and pass this on to 10 friends each then 30 million people will have been contacted.

If it goes one more level further, you guessed it – THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people, that’s all!

If you don’t understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people … Well, let’s face it, you just aren’t a mathematician. But I am. So trust me on this one.

How long will this take? If each of us send this to 10 more people within one day of receipt, all 300 Million people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!

I’ll bet you didn’t think you and I had that much potential, did you!

Acting together we can make a difference.

If this makes sense to you, PLEASE pass this message on, I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $2-00 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

Keep it going!!!

P.S. Please keep this concept in mind, to keep gas prices from going up in the future.

Conclusion: Oil companies have cross the line, understand this; We' er not saying don't buy gas period, you need gas to back and forth to work or to take of your daily routine - what we' er saying don't buy "EXXON and MOBIL". Lets make the Oil Companies feel the pain for a change! There's no website to go to -  just pass this information on to your family members, co-workers, neighbors and friends. Let Us All Band Together!

Off-Topic / Unemployment Crisis Is Still Rising
« on: December 05, 2009, 05:07:41 am »Message ID: 115963
:icon_rr: Is there any good news to report! That's all you here on the radio station's and the News. Unemployment is at an all time high at 12% - 8-9 million American ( White, African-American, Latin-American, Pink, Purple) out of work, who cares what color you are...we need JOBS!

How could this happen, one of the greatest country on earth... And your trying to tell me that our so-called government can't create jobs for it's people or build factories and start making stuff again- but they can go spend Billions in other countries to help them rebuild their lives...What About Us!

Don't get me wrong, I want to help other people in need no matter where they live - it sadden me when I watch the news that a lot of countries around the world are starving and greatly need medical supplies or what have you. I don't know about you, but I was always taught before you clean someone else house, you need to clean yours first...and I still live by that rule today.

Here in my home town Chicago (IL) the unemployment office's and job fairs, look like a rock concert, I stood in line for 7 hours and I myself have been out of work for 1 year 5 months. I filled out every job application I could get my hands on... oh yeah! I did the Internet profile thing too! I never in all my years seen so many desperate men and women looking for work, mostly men! something came across my mind all of sudden as a father while standing inline - all these men have families, what does it do to a man's ego when he can't support his family. Desperate men Do Desperate Things!  Idle Mind Is the Devil's Work Shop! you get the picture.

Here is my American Stimulus Package Proposal:

1.We as American's need to treat our politician's just like an employer would do when you first start a new job. You got 60-90 days to prove you can handle this job - if not, your a$$ is out of here! NEXT!!!

2. All the 8-9 million American people that's out work and including myself, should march on Washington DC or U.S. Capital and demand our government to create jobs and start rebuilding America again...I bet you we will have jobs by tomorrow morning!

Care to add to the proposal - I would appreciate your thoughts!

Off-Topic / The Grocery Stores
« on: November 12, 2009, 07:25:29 am »Message ID: 108652
:icon_rr: Do you remember when you could take a $100.00 to the grocery store and actually fill the shopping cart, just about half way. Yeah! I know that was a long time ago, maybe around the early 1970's...but the point I'm trying to make is, no matter how tight you keep your budget - you might have to substitute bacon for cheap breakfast hot dog's. I know there aren't any such thing! but you may have to buy a very cheap no name brand just to keep food on the table.

Going to the grocery store is a nightmare it's enough to make a grown man cry or woman too! My wife and I have gotten pretty good with budgeting our money, we only buy what is needed or we're out of, but it's getting much harder now, being at the grocery store is like a job. These stores have lost their "Dog-Gone-Mind" when did chicken become the price of shrimp, pork chops the price of a steak or steak the price of a lobster the list goes on. I'm I the only one that see this! Thank God my kids are all grown up and don't live with us -because  I don't think my wife and I would've made it.

A $100.00 today - No way!

How are you surviving to make ends meet?

Your thoughts are very appreciated!

Thank You!

:icon_rr: While doing some work around the house, I was listening to the news yesterday, and they stated that the economy is getting better. Where are these news people getting their information from, and where is this place at that shows the economy is better, I want to move there!

In my neighborhood alone people are losing their homes, jobs etc, it looks like a ghost town in some communities  here in (Chicago). If this is what the news people mean about getting better, I don't want any more!

Banks and Mortgage Companies have ROBBED the people blind...how are we suppose to stimulate the economy if you don't have any money to spend such as (food, clothing, etc). Something for our elected official's to think about!

What are your thoughts on this?

Thank You,
