I have both and to be honest I get frustrated with the Ipad because it doesn't always register when my finger touches it. My husband blames my small hands however I think it is just a pos. LOL

If I were you, I would go with a laptop. You can do so much more with it than a Ipad. A laptop can read/write disc's, browse the web, and so much more. While a Ipad is mainly for some who just wants something to take on the go and check emails, read, simple things like that. However if you're looking for something that matches the two, check around. They have laptops that are pretty much like tablets and offer the same of both worlds. Hope this helps.
