Need suggestion on parking and neighbor issues.
« on: November 24, 2009, 11:08:47 pm »
There is construction going on on the street I usually park on. So I have to park one street over which is closer to me cause I live on the back end of an apartment building. For some reason the people on this street think they own the area in front of their house and keep leaving letters reading about how "the residents would like to be able to come home and park in front of their own homes." and how we should park on the other block.

Previous letters were letter supposedly from a neighborhood watch group saying that they have taken pictures of our car and written down the license plate number and reported them to the police.

We aren't doing anything illegal whatsoever. We don't block their driveways in anyway whatsoever. And they never leave an exact address as to who is leaving these letters so as to address the issue. Does anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking of leaving a note on my asking them to stop doing so due to the fact that the street is PUBLIC property.

I really wouldnt worry about it if I was you. It is public property. Just cause they live where they do does not mean they own that road or parking spot. Tell them to grow up

That is rude.  I mean, if you aren't blocking anything then I don't see what the issue is.  Maybe they just don't like all the cars, but still they should see it from your end too.  Leave a  not explaining about construction and that you are not blocking their driveways.  Be polite and just explain the situation and apologize if the car is somehow bothering them.  Obviously if they have called the police and nothing has happened to you then the police know you aren't doing anything illegal and don't care.  You can park along the sidewalk in a residential neighborhood as long as you are not blocking driveways or whatever.  I don't know, just try to be polite, they probably don't want people's cars by their property, but if you are polite and explain how you too are being inconvenienced maybe they will understand.  If not, I guess do what you have to do and park there.  If any vandalism happens to your car you can show those letters to implicate that whoever is writing them probably did it.

Yes leave a note or put up flyers explaining about the construction and that this is a temporary situation.  Wish them a happy holiday season filled with love for thy neighbor.  ;)

So go and speak to the Police yourself and ask if its allowed, that way you know either way. Its not aganist the law, unless posted.

Pfff, college students deal with it even worse.
Tell 'em first come first serve.
If they don't like it, bring it up with the construction workers.

:sad1: I am a disabled person who NEEDS to park next to my house.. Someone DID take my spot, and I had to park 2 blocks away, and walk home. I was in a lot of pain because of this. Maybe they NEED to park next to their houses, to be able to avoid pain,, and maybe watch their cars. Remember, when you park in front of someones house, they have to park somewhere else too, and they may not like it !!!

I don't even try to park in the college parking lot. Usually have to park a block or two down the street infront of apts or on a busy road which i don't like. and it takes me 10-15 minutes to walk back to class it sucks!
