What OTC meds or home remedies are the best for treating a cold?

For me, I don't use OTC drugs. I just fast and drink plenty of liquid. Most important of all, you must have plenty of REST! If you are sick with a cold/flu, you need to go to bed early. People normally get sick during or after the holidays because of overeating from Thanksgiving. It's a clear indication our digestive system is exhausted.

I take Advil if I have a headache.  Other than that, no OTC meds.  Juice, tea, Vitamin C, and LOTS of soup.

I drink emergen-c, tea, soup and use my humidifier a lot. I tend to get that nasty bronchitial cough around this time of year.

Hot tea with lemon and honey. Sometimes I'll add some apple cider vinegar to the tea to help with cough/congestion. It sounds nasty but it works for so many things and you don't taste it too much.

Dayquil works well for me. If you have a cough nothing beats Delsym cough syrup.

I don't generally use OTC meds for cold either.  I may take a decongestant if it gets really bad.  I like to eat garlic and make ginger tea.  The first sign I am getting sick (which is rarely) I drink, drink and drink some more.  It helps flush out the germs and get rid of it quicker.
