devastation in Haiti, how is it affecting you?
« on: January 14, 2010, 05:24:23 am »
I don't have personal ties to anyone in Haiti but, through sheer human compassion, every time I watch the footage I start bawling myeyes out. I'm happy that America is taking such a big part in the relief aid. The global effort really touches you. What do you guys think about the relief efforts? How can we do more?

:crybaby2:It makes me grateful for everything I do have...I am disappointed in the facebook crowd; it seems as if losing UT coach was such a castrophe and nobody even mentions Haiti.  Kinda like no one wants to talk about it on here.
My friends and acquaintances are supposedly Christians, so why are they not wanting to acknowledge, pray, or talk about it at all? :dontknow:
When they show the children it is heartbreaking.

The human mind can only process so much grief and despair. I think that is why people avoid talking about this. It is just too much to bear. It makes me proud to see all the people who are going in to help. God speed to them.

It is a horrible thing and I feel bad because I cannot head over there and help. My family is usually one to go aid things like this but only in this country-- we do not have the time or money lately to travel abroad :-(

I just hope they can recover decently seeing how Haiti is a very poor nation.

If you really want to help the people of Haiti donate to the Red Cross! I can tell you this when I went through hurricane Katrina with my family we were stuck in a small country town 70 miles north of the coast. We had no way to leave or call out. We were trapped for soo long that our food and water supply were gone and the only thing that saved us was the Red Cross and a very kind Coca Cola delivery man that brought the town a pallet of water and made sure that some one knew the town was in need. I highly recommend helping the Red Cross as I know from personal experience how quickly they are there to help. http://www.redcross.org/

Haven't even thought about it

Disasters happen all the time
it's the way of nature and humans will always be affected

I thank my God that he spared me so far today and gave me a beautiful morning to enjoy

Enjoy what you have today

It may be gone tomorrow

And I do agree
give to the Red Cross
Your money will go where it's needed the most

I just found out last night that my baby brother (a local firefighter) has put his name in to go to Haiti for the relief administering first aid locating lost peoples. I'm very proud of him, and a little scared that he may not return  :notworthy:

God bless your baby brother! I can't go to Haiti to help but I'm giving as much as I can to Red Cross and praying every day for all the people in need. It it the most horrible situation I can even imagine and the only way I know to help is to give whatever little I can to help.

It hasn't affected me.  It's sad but I don't think about it.
When something personally and physically affects my kids and family, than I'll think about it.
Call me what you will, this is my opinion.

America: the only country where we have homeless without shelter, children going to bed without eating, elderly going without needed meds, and mentally ill without treatment - yet we have a benefit for the people of Haiti on every TV station.

Actually, there are homeless without shelter and all that in every country. Every single country. And we're not the only ones trying hard to help Haiti.
Who cares whether it's near you or not, giving to people who need it is a good thing.

We've been learning in our church to love all people like we love ourselves, and i have been genuinely trying and i thought failing, until the earthquake hit Haiti. I'm not that old but at 19 I've seen plenty of natural disasters but Haiti was the first on that when I saw footage of it I couldn't stand to see it, I had to turn away and what footage and pictures i have seen have made my heart ache and brought tears to my eyes. I wish there was more that i could do, if i had more money I would be on the next flight there to help in any way that I could, I really wish I could go do something more, but I can't at this time, and i don't have enough money, so for now i will continue to give out of what i have and if God moves me to do more and provides means then I will go further.
