Not sure. I hear there's a lot of crime going on there right now, too. A lot of looting and sorts.

I think there will be a lot of fighting from people trying to figure out how to prevent something like this happening again, and then there's problem with many not having money to rebuild from scratch. Unfortunately, in my opinion, things seem grim. :( In the meantime, I do hope that those who need medical attention, get it.

the tourist sections will be built bigger and better, but for the permanant residents, they'll probably continue to live the way they always have.  they are an oppressed people and society. :sad1:

I wish they will get what they need right now and I hope it will be better for them fast, They will need a lot of time and money to rebuild and they will need a lot of time to forget what they just saw

I really hope so. I know they are doing a lot to try to help Haiti. My husbands boss is actually from Haiti and he has yet to find out if his family down there is okay. I hope you all can keep them in your prayers like we all have.

Places like that in my oppinion are always going to be bad unless they start all over with the people. You can remodle something so much but if you still have violent people that are not being held for the things they have done the econemy in such place will always be bad.

:( I personality believe it can be, but they need more help than just from the United States. I haven't heard of any other country trying to help these poor people.
It's true, there is a lot of violence over there, but I believe this comes from fear! And another way to look at it, is, there is violence everywhere, to much to be honest about it. If I believe the bible correctly, God promises 1000 years of peace, but until that day comes, it is up to us to do what we can for the less fortunate than our selves. And we all have to pray for them. Show them how to rebuild, schools, churches and businesses.
I couldn't even imagine what it is like over there. And I think many feel the same way.

What Rebuilding Haiti Will Mean
Debt relief, housing quality, and a better government are key

The following was posted on the newser site yesterday:

World leaders have vowed to rebuild Haiti's infrastructure into something better than it was before; the Independent takes a look at what this would mean in practice:

    * Higher-quality housing: Haiti has no building codes; international donors should insist the new dwellings their funds build for those left homeless in the quake meet higher standards. But with many of the displaced already building makeshift homes, this will be a challenge.

    * A viable government: It's currently lacking, and the country can't get back on its feet without one. Despite the recession, Haiti's economy grew by 2.5% last year; to return to that path, some want anti-corruption conditions attached to any money it's given, which in turn angers those who feel desperately needed aid should have no strings attached.

    * Debt reduction: Crippling foreign debts have long been a "critical millstone" hanging on Haiti's neck; rich countries need to speed up debt relief.

* Aid that actually improves things: The US has spent $800 million in Haiti in the past five years, but 75% of the rice Haiti—which grew all its own rice until the '80s—now eats comes from subsidy-rich American farms, resulting in unemployment for farmers and urban migration.

I agree with the above. They will be lucky if they ever get back to the way they were.

I hope so.  I was also really hoping that people that live there would make the choice NOT to hurt others as in their own people.  I understand that it is a desperate situation, but you have to be able to make that choice, as an adult. Loosing family and friends is horrible, especially w/ children involved. But be that as it may, people have to make the choice to be helpfull and hopefull, not Destructive, which will ultimately bring that nation together again.
