Is it where all the rainbows come together to hang out and talk about being rainbows?

It is (for some) a protest, for others yet a burden on society, and for the people that go there a time to "expand" their minds and relate more with nature.

Basically, 30 days of craziness.

this looks fun... and peaceful.

a burden on society? i guess if this were a religious
gathering, it'd be a hay old good time. we'd all approve,
right?

  My son goes to a lot of the rainbow gatherings ... he is a great kid but born in the wrong era ....
He lives like a hippie BUT .... he is very happy.  It is not something I am happy with but he is my son and he is soon to be a father.

It could be worse we could ALL be under communist or socialist rule or maybe a dictatorship with very repressed rules! (rainbow   gathering= woodstock reunion?)

I never went to one, but I used to be friends with people who went to quite a few.

More info can be found at the website "The Rainbow Guide"...

"The Rainbow Guide is a freely printed, non-commercial directory of Rainbow friends, tribes, communities, individuals and peaceful co-ops world over and serves to help keep us connected throughout the year. The Guide is compiled and published annually by volunteers with your contributions of profiles, heartsongs, photos, art and whatever you would like to add to the energy. The Guide helps the Family to connect with each other throughtout the year."

Just this month a theatrical trailer for an upcoming documentary about the gatherings was posted on YouTube. Search for "WE LOVE YOU: A Rainbow Gathering Documentary Trailer". It states...

"Every summer since 1972, Rainbow Gatherings have occurred in a different U.S. National Forest, drawing tens of thousands of counter-culture types to the wilderness to set up a temporary city. 'We Love You' shows you their rarely seen culture, the violent oppression of Federal Agents who target them, and their ultimate victory as they pray for peace the day after Feds shoot Pepper Spray projectiles in the children's area of the Gathering."

If you also search for "Rob Savoye: Rainbow Family" you will find a radio interview that details how during the 2008 meeting: "feds assaulted, Tasered and arrested five members of the group for the crime of having an 'unregistered gathering'"

just remember, in order for a rainbow to be created - rain must fall - so expect stormy weather at these gatherings - filmed 6o's gatherings - most are dead now or are so messed up that they don't know their name

Anyone ever heard of it?

I never heard of it. The name itself doesn't sound so bad. It sounds like a good name for a new restaurant. Wouldn't that be nice?  :) A RAINBOW full of worldwide exotic dishes plus a GATHERING of ethnic friends and families together to hang out at.  :icon_rr:
