Death of a Sea World Trainer
« on: February 24, 2010, 05:18:01 pm »
I was watching the news earlier and I saw that a Sea World trainer passed away due to complications with a killer whale. I feel sorry for the trainer and her family. But taking an animal that big (or any animal for that matter) into captivity then making it dance for people and entertain them is just asking for trouble. Anyone agree? Disagree? What is your take on this?

My heart absolutely goes out to the trainer and her family.  That was so sad.  I am really glad that the whale was not put to sleep.  The whale needs to be set free and be able to live the life it was supposed to.  I believe confining animals like that is cruel and mostly done for money purposes.

I feel sorry for the Sea World trainer's family, however she did know the risks involved in interacting with wild animals and mammals, they are unpredictable.  I love to go to Sea World to see those animal shows, and I admire the trainers who have to courage to work with them.

You all are aware that the same whale has killed before, right.  This last young lady he killed was not  his first kill, this has happened before and yet they continue to let the whale perform for the crowd.  This thing has gotten a taste of killing and I do believe he will kill again if they don't do anything about this whale.

That is true. Wild animals need to stay in their natural habitat.  No matter how long a animal has been around humans they still have their natural instinct in them.  That is why I think we should just enjoy them in their natural habitates.

Just another example, people may think they are safe for a while, but eventually something is going to happen, look at the crocodile hunter, they were doing what they love to do, and they love animals, but some animals most likely should be left to their own environment. My condolences to all the families who have lost loved ones in this line of work, I know they mean well, but animal usually safer in own habitat, as well as human, for now anyway.

Unfortunately, as long as people go to zoos and wildlife theme parks to see the animals up close this will continue to happen. The danger is always there no matter how well trained the keeper/trainer is, the great unknown is what is on that particular animal's mind on any particular day.

Such a shame! But I guess it's better to be killed by something you love than it is to be killed by something you hate. She died doing what she loved.
