Should some crimes be allowed a statute of limitations while other crimes do not?

Well yeah. Some things should not even be a crime in the first place. They have made so many laws and everything a crime, they have to clear the system of older, non procuted (less serious)crimes to make room for the newer crimes and still leave the older more serious crimes in the system.

If one does not give up their constitutional right to a jury trial, then part of the jury's duty is to decide the legality of the law in the first place.

If crimes are automatically forgiving after a predetermined time, doesn't this help to encourage the already huge problem of people constantly attempting to not accept the responsibility of their actions and the consequences of those actions?

I can see the length of time since the crime was committed being considered, along with any other charges during that time. when determining sentencing but not in determining guilt or innocence.

Either you committed a crime or you didn't.
