Just in case no one reads through all of cuppycake's post, the eBay 21 day hold is very easy to explain. It is only for NEW sellers and protects both the seller and the buyer. Once you are established, the hold is dropped unless you have a problem and REQUEST the money be held for whatever reason. eBay bought PayPal in 2002 for $1.5 billion after they dropped Billpoint, the service they had been using.

What do you guys think about paypal holding everybody's money for 21 days? :angry7:

Where did you hear about this change? Is there an article? Idk if I want my money on hold.
Hey Flor!!! Yesterday I did some research about this topic and I found a forum online and I got the impression that if you sell things on Ebay, then your money could be on hold...I don't think it will pertain to users of Paypal that just receive payments or send payments to regular websites. Many people on this forum said that they weren't getting their money from Ebay and that people out there were trying to scam Paypal with a fake Ebay URLs, that's all that I could understand what was going on...but this forum was from January 2010......I went to Paypal and there was nothing stating that a member's money would be put on hold.....I don't know exactly the URL I was at, but just look it up on the Yahoo search engine....you'll find it there. I'll see what's up in your chat room! ;) :peace:

Hey girl :) Thanks for the info apparently this is not a new thing I do sell on ebay occasionally but not lately so I guess I am good lol

I think at first they did put a hold on one of my payments from a buyer.

Thanks! Good to know that someone was able to explain this issue in one paragraph and was clearly understood!  I did read through Cuppycake's posts and was like...it still only pertains to sellers...I don't sell anything online...so that info wasn't helpful... :sad1: Thanks for clearifying things up!  :peace:

Wow. That sounds scary. Ebay is practically operated by paypal (in other words, most ebay sellers and buyers use paypal.) I'm pretty sure this is for ebay sellers. That's my opinion.

It is most likely to protect both buyer and seller - like the post above mentioned!

Ebay/paypal both suck. I just got scammed on paypal. I sold a $10 itunes gift card. The $10 went into my paypal account and it said completed. They buyer emailed me and requested that I just email him the code for the card rather than mail it. So I did. 2 days after I emailed the code the status of the payment changed from completed to held. I called paypal and they said they couldn't verify if the payment is legit. Its been 2 weeks and my payment is still being held. The best part of it all is they told me if the buyer doesn't respond to the claim then he gets his money back. I messaged a couple other sellers that this guy has bought from and they all said the same thing happened to them. I don't understand how I was suppose to know I was being scammed. The transaction was "completed" so I had the $10. Once I sent the buyer the codes then paypal decides to put a hold on the funds. I also paid about $3 in ebat/paypal fees. Which is 30% of the total amount I recieved. Overall ebay/paypal suck, the fees are outrageous and they are NOT secure, I would highly recommend not using them.

Sorry this happened but younever complete your part until after your for sure you got your payment.  Once it shows you got your payment then go and request it and have it moved to either bank account or sent to you.  That way it can't be gotten back by the person canceling on there end.  So far I have had no problems with paypal getting moneys to me or sending it.  I use them alot due to my business.

I know that if I return anything I've bought off of Ebay, it takes forever for Paypal to get my refunded money posted.  Sometimes up to 3 weeks.  Even though the seller refunds it almost immediately.  That's how come I don't use Paypal for anything but Ebay.  I don't like it because it's just to slooooow :angry7:

It isn't just for new sellers. It also goes by feedback.
