it depends on where it lands! carpet usually
creeps me out more than linolium, because
teensy tiny carpet hairs get stuck no matter
what... meep.

i usually don't want anything bad enough for
the five second (or three second or ten
second) rules to apply, lol.
[ we all have a place in history. mine is in the clouds. ]

If it's something is hard like a piece of candy like a jelly bean then I just wipe it off.  If it's something sticky I'll throw it away.

Sadly, only 1 second is enough to contaminate the food.
However I usually rinse it off depending on the food and surface it landed on,
and try to save it.

It really depends on what has been dropped. And I agree a little dirt never hurt anyone.  Old kid saying - God made dirt and dirt won't hurt lol

Hehehe...God made dirt and dirt don't hurt...

Depends on where you are.  When you drop food on the floor in your own house...that dust and dirt came from you (and any assorted guests, depending on how often you sweep etc) and it is completely different than say dropping something on the floor at the local Mickey D's.  Doesn't make it any less icky sounding, though.  Example...a dog's mouth is cleaner than a human's, but that doesn't mean I'd rather have the dog lick my entire face than kiss my husband.  Same goes for baby urine...its supposed to be the best for ear infections (if the baby is healthy), but I'd rather not have that put in my ears, no matter how sterile.

What's the 5 second rule?
If food falls on the floor, you have 5 seconds to pick it up for it to still be good to eat.

No. I've also seen on an episode of MythBusters that it doesn't make a difference if you pick up food after 2 seconds or 6 seconds.
