Aren't there already laws?  There are public decency and obscenity laws aren't there?
There are dress codes for the general public in some countries, like in the middle east.  I personally think that there should be a dress code just so everyone will stop dressing like skanks and look a bit decent, but then again there is freedom of expression to consider.  People should be able to express themselves through any means including the way they dress.  That's one thing to consider.

There are laws for public nudity, but not for dress.
I think it would be too tough to enforce a dress code for the general public.

There are those countries as Shahrukhlover pointed out that do have strict dress codes for public and enforce it. But also as she said it wold take away freedom of expression.

I do believe though that modesty should be applied when you are out in public. Especially for the younger generation. I was brought up where if you want to flaunt it expect bad things to happen. Still to this day I live by this. If I want to flaunt anything I do it in private and only for the benefit for me and my man.

morals are subjective.  Some people have more self confidence (and some people just want to show off what they have, or think they have)

If the original poster is from the USA, there are public nudity laws, but nothing stopping people from giving the illusion of nudity.  Its a free country.  Yes, there should be a limit (which is what there are laws against public nudity for)  but at the same time, people need to relax.  Its the human body.  If your offended by nudity, or terrified that your children might see a *bleep*, or a breast... then you should staple their eyes shut and have them bathe fully clothed.

Its anatomy.  We all have it.  Some people's is better then others.  Its part of life, and a very important part at that.  Personally, I'd prefer America to be a little less prude and go more Euro, in terms of sexuality.    Skin is skin.  someone shouldn't be nude in public, but if something slips, no-one should be offended by it... we all have it. (or a form of it)

I don't think a dress code would work in this country, but there are, indeed, laws forbidding public nudity in this country.  However, I wonder what some people would think if they could really see themselves and how they dress in public.  How some people dress (or do not dress) in public may be a matter of self-confidence, but I lean more to self-respect.  I am not a prude, but I think there are far too many people that dress according to their size.  I carry around too many pounds, myself, but I cringe when I see people wear skin-tight clothes who should not.

the college I go to is about 70% female... so I see the full gambit of outfits and personalities....  Spandex should be illegalized in all forms. lol

(although there are two girls a semester ahead of me who wear it often because they are personal trainers... and it does wonders for them.  but they are the exception that makes the rule)

A dress code in public would be stupid!
Not that I agree with how everyone is dress, but I don't see it in any way to be any of my business to tell someone how to dress.
I'll just look and laugh and move on with my life. Those thinking too much into it have issues. ???

I don't think a dress code would be easy to enforce, but I do think that some people are so close to nude that it would fall under the public nudity category. I wish some people had more sense and more respect for themselves, so they wouldn't go out in public undressed the way they do.

People who dress weirdly or poorly most likely either are looking for attention or they do not care what others think about their appearance.  Some people just do not get how awful or foolish they look.  I guess at the same time, what I may think is foolish or awful, others may think it looks great.  As long as it is not obscene, people have the freedom to dress like they want.  This topic reminds me of this site:   http://www.peopleofwalmart.com/

Oh wow  some of those were not to bad but their were a few I would have issues with and I usually dont bother with the way pepople dress. The women is a few of those picts especially. Come on a sports bra is a sports bra it goes under a shirt. And a tank top that does not hide much? Where is the decency?

We live on a military base and yes, there is a dress code here--even for civilians. If you're going into a military grocery store, etc., no tank tops and no shorts that are too short. There are posters on every store window showing "correct civilian attire."
