Although he hasn't watched cartoons in quit a while because we don't have cable, he still listens to music on my iPod from his favorite TV shows. Is there anything wrong with this?

Honestly you are the mother, correct? Do you see anything wrong with this?
And to ease your mind both my kids got their first mp3 players when my youngest was 3 and my oldest 6. Before that we would always catch the latest videos on MTV. Ha music has been a huge part of my children's life. I remember both of them being babies and I would play Janis Joplin while they were taking naps.
Music is actually an outlet for children. My kids are always making up songs and my oldest already at 8 can play the guitar thanks to her uncle who is in a band, "words like waves". I think music is great for kids no matter what you or the child listens too.
