Solar Panels on an existing home...

I just read online that I could build my own solar panels to put on my home, has anyone done this? I understand the building of them, however, how do you hook them up to my electricity so I don't have to pay for electricity? Does anyone know?

Yes we have looked into doing this ourrselves but it s still so expensive.  There are several ways it can be done and even with building them yourself you will have to buy all the stuff which you might and might not be able to get.  They have some that have to be wired in and some that are simiply connected together that click together then they still have to be wired into your main box.  Google it and you will be amaze on what you find but all want money.

I would let the pros hook it up.  Your dealing with dangerous electricity.

I think Solar Panels are great but I think you need a professional in that field to install them correctly unless you really know how to do them yourself.  I have heard that solar panels saves 95% on your electricity if you can afford them.

I set this post because of the money we can save, and if you are right, saving 95% makes me want to do it even more!

I feel you me and hubby want to do it too but the cost is so much we can't afford it..He has experience to do it himself but materials are high going green should not be so expensive

I would let the pros handle installing it. they need to have a cut off for when an electrical wire is being replaced or broken the power from the solar panels do not travel the wires and hurt the linesmen from the power company. There is also some type of converter box that needs to be installed that keeps the current at a specific load or the panels can end up putting too much power into your house and frying the electronics or worse burning the house down.

If you want to have Solar panels check your state for any tax reductions that you can take advantage of. Pennsylvania has this available you get some much money back from the state after the installation then the power company will pay you each month for the credits your panels are producing. I would have jumped on this but we were doing other renovations to our house that this would not be able to make this happen.
