Ya'll have fun. I DON"T DO HALOWEEN. I believe it is from the pits of hell.

I will!  I'll have a blast!  And I'll help raise money and toys for kids who won't have any this holiday season in the process.

There's nothing wrong with having a substitute, and making it a tradition, in place of a Holiday you don't approve of.

Or you could explain the origins to them in terms they can understand and add, "People believed silly things back then.  Now we just celebrate for fun."  Works for all holidays.  ;)   That's what I would do if I had kids...

The origins are explained to the kids who can understand.

I never could carve a pumpkin very well, even with the patterns you can buy at the store! We always just do the classic carve. The fun part is roasting the seeds along with some marshmallows in the fireplace along with some hot coco! We only do one pumpkin, a week before Halloween and we make it a big family deal, it's fun  :)

Here is a pic of last years pumpkin carving, marshmallow roasting event. (we had just lit the fire and my husband and I were left doing the gross work of seeding the pumpkin while the kids enjoyed the fire)

They look like they are having the most fun!  I absolutely love this time of the year!

I love these three months...October, November, and December.  I love how the air cools down and we can start celebrating more with our families.  We even celebrate Christmas because my family always did (I converted to Judaism) and my husband's family gets together to decorate and celebrate.  Its never been a religious season for us; just a time to celebrate being a family.  This year is the first year we've decorated with our daughter for Halloween, though.  She loves going outside with us in her sweaters and turning on the LED light in the pumpkin.  That alone is enough reason to decorate/celebrate for me.

You are the best!!
And I love all the pics. The girls and I have yet to carve a pumpkin. Or bake the pumpkin seeds.. Mmmm.
And for another post on here we celebrate All Hallows Eve as it should be, a day of recognizing the dead. Yes its fun to dress up and go trick or treating. But we take time to honor and remember all our loved ones and people who have died for our country. Just as some people honor that on a different occasion.

I've been baking all night long...tomorrow is the Toys for Tots charity Halloween party I'm helping with.  I'll be sure to take pictures of the spooky decorations, pumpkins, and food for everyone!  LOL...wish me luck...I'm just taking a short break before heading back to the stove to make bleeding zombie cupcakes!

Amy, I just saw the pics of what you made, wow! Good job there, Mommy. :D I actually miss doing that kind of stuff - even though I grumbled most of the time because I wanted to be sleeping instead...*sigh*...on list of many things I sometimes wish I could do over. Thanks for the smiles and the memories. ;)
