Should the war end?
« on: October 10, 2010, 12:02:08 pm »
What is your opinion on the war?

Should it have started?

Should  it end?

What is the point of staying over there?

Iraq was an unnecessary moral and financial disaster; thank God we're getting out, after nearly bankrupting ourselves. Bombing Al-Queda's training camps in Afghanistan was necessary, but the war has turned into another Vietnam. Al-queda is best handled by good intelligence, covert operations, and a vigilant public. Far more effective, far fewer deaths, and much cheaper. I say OUT ASAP.

The war should have ended years ago. I don't really see the point fighting in Iraq and its a shame that ww2 was the last war that we have won that had a meaning...

It should have never started to begin with.

You would think that they would figure out that war isn't the answer.  There's been war since the beginning of time nearly, and it didn't solve anything then, so nothing has changed and it's not solved anything now.

The thing is if you keep doing the same thing, you're going to get the same results.  HELLO?  It's past time to try something different, me thinks.

And of course, my heart goes out to all of those who have lost loved ones in these unnecessary wars.

I agree...I'm ready for our troops to come home.  Being a military wife, and a future military person myself...It would be best for them to start bringing home our people.  It's lasted for way to long.

You all must be joking!  I am a veteran with over 29 years of service and spent my time in Iraq and Afghanastan.  Troops must stay in both places for the near future.  Iraq is winding down.  The fifty thousand troops still their are primarily trainers.  The Iraq Army must be trained before we leave.  We will never take all of our troops out of either place.  It is like Korea.  We still have 25,000 soldiers there and I assume they will remain there for a long time as long as NK is still a problem in the area.  It's the same for Iraq and Afghanastan.  Until the region is stable, our troops will have to stay.  Iran posses the biggest problem for us.  In the end, I believe we will keep 20,000 troops in both countries for a very long time.  Our National Security demands our presence.   :sad1:

Of course we all want peace and want the war to end. but thats just not the reality of it. I have several friends and family members in the military. My best friend is in Afghanistan right now as we speak. Fighting for you. Me. America. Our Freedom. I just can't believe how many people think that we should just bring them all home! Are you serious? This war was going to happen. Of course its a financial strain on America. Any war would be. But this started way before G.W. Bush Jr.  Al qaida had been planning those attacks for a long time. and do you seriously think they will stop now, especially if we pull all of our troops out of there?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but:
The US has paid close attention to the Middle East, because of the on going Arab-Israeli conflict, since Israel claimed statehood in 1948. The US's first invasion of Iraq was in 1979, it was a hostage crisis. The hostages were American nationals working at the U.S. embassy in Tehran. The incident began when the shah (king), who was overthrown in the revolution, was allowed to enter the U.S. for medical care. Iranian students, upset about the shah being in the U.S. stormed the American embassy the following month. They took and held hostage 66 of its employees. The crisis lasted 444 days, ending on Jan. 20, 1981. The reason for the US's second attack on Iraq, was led by George Bush Sr., in 1991. The Persian Gulf War was not only a globally supported, but a globally involved attempt to run Iraq out of Kuwait, in order to prevent Iraq from another long term war, like the eight year long war against Iran they had just been pulled out of 2 years prior by the UN. Terms of the cease-fire included that Iraq was to stop its biological, chemical, and nuclear weapons programs, which are often referred to as "weapons of mass destruction."... and did they stop? Nope... Saddam Refused... and we've all seen where that went. He was captured, killed, and we removed the weapons of mass destruction, well, lets all hope we did. Iraqi's revolted, started a new government, and our troops have stayed to ensure the safety of the Iraqis against those who oppose the new government. It will never be 100% safe.

I'm not saying that we should over load them with our troops over there, but we should be prepared for the worst, for ANYTHING. And OF COURSE I want them to come home and be safe!! I miss my girl Missy.
While Things may seem calm, that is what they want us to think. Whats going on behind closed doors is a whole nother story.
That which can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence.

You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into in the first place.

Well said!!  You have your facts in order.  I think that you and I are on the same sheet of music.  We have just stated our opinions in a different manner.

There was an attempted terrorist attack on American soil within the last year.  To say the war should end i nothing short of crazy.

I think the war will never end. You will always have problems with your enemies at some point because some people there is no justice or reconcilation. We are living in very critical items. War is even going on inside of many americans home today. Pray is always need.

Iraq was a completely unnecessary war that we should have never got involved in. Afghanistan on the other hand should have been our main priority and we shouldnt have been distracted by Iraq while al queda pretty much established itself a safe haven in the border region with Pakistan. we need to find osama bin laden and put an end to the al queda threat to the united states once and for all. they have been able to get away with it for long enough and it needs to end.

Killing OBL will not put an end to Al Queida. Someone else will take his place.

We do need to start pulling out of Iraq - but slowly. Give the Iraqi army a sense of urgency to build up their own force and stop relying on our soldiers.

Afghanistan is a whole 'nother story. There won't be a good end to that situation as long as Pakistan isn't on board with taking a stance against ALL terrorists.

But I'm not political/war genius so this is just my 2 cents.
