FC Toolbar Taking Over My Searches
« on: November 04, 2010, 07:11:33 pm »
I need a computer geek mostly to help with this problem.

The main problem I see with the toolbar is that it took over the searching in the Google Searchbox Window.  Even though I went into toolbar options and unticked ALL of the search stuff, it still comes up and it totally knocked out my Norton's Safe Search Feature, even though Norton says it's on.

THAT IS NEEDED because it has a green checkmark beside websites which means the site is safe.  The FC toolbar took over and now the green star on Norton's toolbar safe search isn't showing up.  Now it will if I go and search via the Norton's toolbar, but I would like the default Google search window back like it was.

Other than that, I LOVE the FC toolbar, because I can go straight to offers, account, etc...  I want to keep the FC toolbar, but I want it OUT of the searches.  And I DID UNTICK/UNCHECKED the search options already.

Here it is shown doing my Google searchbox from my normal URL Searchbox area...  See what I mean?  No green checkmarks, so I have no idea the safety of websites now.

Now I can go to google.com the normal way and it's not taken over, but sometimes, I'm in a hurry and just want to do the search in the Google searchbox window.

Computer geeks, please step forward.   Thanks

which browser are you using? I don't use Norton because I despise it because It seems to have a mind of its own and well there are plenty of free options available.  But anyways the AV software I use currently has a very similar feature but I have never experienced the toolbar taking over the searches only when I type in the fusion cash search window do I get search screens like you posted.  Knowing what browser you use will make it easier to help fix your problem as they all have different layouts for there settings.

Firefox.  FC Toolbar was downloaded as a Firefox extension from the FC Toolbar download page.

Weird I don't have that problem with firefox but I do with IE 8, but with the AV I use currently not norton. Anyways first try this, not sure it will work but its worth a shot.  on the Fusion Cash Toolbar where the FC logo is there should be a arrow pointing down click on that and go to toolbar options then on the additional settings tab see if the stuff is checked in that tab mainly enable switch back to default search engine I also have enable search from address bar selected.  If that doesn't fix the problem will probably have to change the default search engine back to what you want which is kinda a pain with firefox.

Scratch that I think I figured it out, I checked all those options and it started doing exactly what yours is doing.. so I unchecked them one by one and tried to search to see if I got the FC search page and I did with every one until the last one.  Then I tried leaving the Enable search from address bar unchecked and restarted firefox and now it searches using my default search engine again.  Hope that helps if by chance it has reset your default search engine I can point u in the right direction to resetting that back to whatever you prefer.

I agree that the Fusion toolbar took too many liberties when I installed it.  I haven't complained because I do like it but when I start a new tab and get a Fushion search box, I am miffed to say the least.  I use Firefox.

I rebooted Firefox and guess what?   The Fusion Cash Customized Web Search is still on and then in options, the things were ALL checked again.

Edit:  Hey, I figured it out...

It has a drop down thingy and I put it on the icon that was there for Google.  So now I DO have a choice.  YAY!

I haven't had this problem, But I do hate the fact that alot of times I'm typing a message, or something else and what I'm typing starts going into the search bar. Gets really annoying, but you might have to just uninstall the fc toolbar, or try it with a different browser ?

lol good I was wondering why you didn't just use the pull down menu to change it :P But I thought you meant you wanted to be able to search regular searches with google or bing which would use your norton safe search to check sites by typing in the address bar.  Glad you fixed your problem :)

It's because I didn't realize that there was a pull down thingy.  I was just glad that I happened to notice the arrow.

Sometimes, I have a slow moment.  lol
