Absolutely not!!! The kids barely are in school as it is when you put early release, half days, holidays and whatever else they are out of school for next. I mean really shouldn't they be learning anyways?? :BangHead:

I think that kids should continue to go to school five days a week, because they need to to learn all that they can and cannot learn nothing by being at home.

You got to be kidding right? American students are at the very bottom in the education scale. Even children in starving countries with little to nothing to survive on are doing better than American children education wise. If you go to any American college today, & ask what's 2+2 90% of the students will pull out their calculator to answer that basic question.  :BangHead: So,no, I think that they should be in school all year round with short periodic breaks instead of a whole summer to forget everything they've learned. If we start doing the year round schooling, the kid's won't know any difference from the days of only 5days of school time.  I :crybaby2: when I think about how bad education in American has become.

No I don't think so. Children need as much time in the classroom that they can get because they seem to not have time to cover material thoroughly as it is.

You are totally crazy why would you want to reduce the school week. Oh my goodness I would go crazy it I had a three day weekend all year with my 5 kids as if the summer isn't bad enough.  Wow lets make it a six day school week. I like that even better.  All in favor say...YES

I can understand Dmecham56's view.  If I was a teacher I could see how the material is hard enough to fit in a 5 day period let along a 4.  However, from a parent's point of view that has two children that have an awful lot of difficulty with what they already have on thier plate, and feel overwhelmed with the amount of work they get.  Perhaps that extra day would be a nice brain reliever for them.  ;)

I believe that five days is the absolute minimum. As stated previously, the curriculum is already packed enough as is and forcing it into a 4 day week will just add further pressure (since everything is condensed into 4 days rather than 5).  At the same time, an extra day does allow for more relaxation but I do not believe that the jump in pressure is worth it, in terms of the child's psychological health.

You cut the days to 4 then it will be more work put in those days that you go.Meaning educators and students will be working harder and reality is they are already working hard as it is!

Kids in the US are already some of the worst educated anywhere on the planet.  Just look at the statistics, we're in a pathetically shameful position compared to many other countries that are much less developed than the US.

What about 4 days a week but--school all year around with longer spring and fall breaks and a summer break of a few weeks instead of a couple of months?

No way, our school kids are already in the bottom of the education scale! I think school should be made year round. Helps kids retain what they learn if there is no 3 months of do nothing summer vacation. This will also help kids from getting in trouble!

If they reduce the number of days they should increase the amount of time students are in school to ensure they are gaining the knowledge they came for.  I actually think this would be a good idea.
