Crossing your legs.
« on: November 19, 2010, 11:08:48 am »
Do you think it's unprofessional to cross your legs?  I am so used to doing it, every-time I sit down at a computer it's a natural habit, but I feel like it looks unprofessional.  What are your thoughts?

I don't see why crossing you're legs would be unprofessional, posture is one thing, but who would be looking at another persons legs in a professional setting anyway?

I think it looks better than sitting with your legs open, now that's unprofessional.

I think it depends on the place  and what you are doing at the moment. if a person is at work with other people around than yes crossing your legs would look better. But also depends on what the person is wearing.

I think it is very professional.  If you are comfortable with crossing your legs while sitting, then by all means keep doing it.

I cross my legs all the time, and in my work, modesty and professionalism is key.  However, I do wear a long enough dress or skirt that won't "ride up" when crossing my legs.  Of course if you wear slacks, there's no problem.  I happen to wear skirts and dresses in my business attire (mostly suits).

I THINK A LADY SHOULD ALWAYS CROSS HER LEGS WHEN SHE SITS DOWN. OUR OLDER GENERATION THINKS THAT CROSSING YOUR LEGS CAUSES VARICOUSE VEINS.

Agreed.  I Don't think crossing your legs causes varicose veins.  I don't have any, and can be considered the older generation (per se).  However, being on your feet a lot without proper support can cause them (varicose veins).  I also wear support hose that aid in good support.  They now make some wonderful sheer support hose that are nothing like the thick things our grandmothers/mothers used to wear.  Also, if your wearing heels (especially 3-4"+), you must have extra support for your legs (hose).

I happen to fly for long hours, and have learned to walk around the aircraft on long flights, and do certain exercises when sitting for long periods of time.
