Anyone have any opinions about Wikileaks?  I think I've discovered a correlation on opinion and age, LOL.

According to my company I'm not allowed to have an opinion other than that "Even if the media has obtained a classified document, it is not declassified"

However; reading some stuff that Campaign for Liberty has put out, I think they make some very very good points regarding it.

I'm surprised you haven't heard of it... its been big in the media lately.

Background: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WikiLeaks

Basically what has happened is that at the end of November, there were some leaks about US diplomatic relations, and there has been a huge uproar about it.  There are some that are touting freedom of the press, and others are saying that by publishing these leaks it is endangering more than diplomatic relations.  Many groups that have been associated with Wikileaks, such as Amazon and PayPal, are pulling out, and many public officials have come out against Wikileaks.

Julian Assange doesn't care about outing evildoers. He just wants to create drama and mischief. He's published names of foreigners who gave info to Americans. Those people and their families are probably dead now. He's a damn coward. If he had any guts, he'd go work for the Russian version of Wikileaks, which just uncovered a massive gas company fraud. Oops, I forgot---he knows it's just a matter of time before Putin has the Russian Wikileaks people killed or maimed. I respect them, and despise Assange!!!!

What do you think about his "poison pill" or "insurance file"?  I think that is one of the most telling things about his character.

Personally I think if it puts another person's life in jeopardy to put out info its wrong..I don't think some things should be hidden but others yes..Stuff to do with military or anything that would comprise soldiers is wrong..So I guess I have to say I think this dude is a drama *bleep* starter and should be hushed.. :P

Not a fan of wikileaks at all.  Assange claims to support democracy, but what he really supports with that site is anarchy.  He has weakened not only the United State's standing with other nations but their standing with each other and the US as well.  There's also the fact that wikileaks is compromising public safety and security - and in doing so threatening the lives of others.

What about the fact that over 600,000 people had access to these documents in the first place? How confidential can something be in the hands of that many people?

I can't say that I have looked at the site but I can tell you one thing the man is going to be making the money if he can stay out of jail.  Just by making the news I have to believe his site is getting hits day and night.  I know that some people have banned or done other things to stop him and others have tried to close the site.  But I think that he has already done what he set out to do.  It is a bad that by doing something that some people consider bad and others think is good but can hurt other people and some one is going to get rich of it is sad

I have to agree that this is all just causing detriment to national security. There have to be somewhat classified documents (even if it is between 600,000 people) to enable the safety of people and countries both. However we should remember that the media distorts stories all the time, and so what we hear is probably not the whole story. I think its very important to keeop that in mind.

They just need to chill about this whole situation.  Hilary Clinton was told to do a job.  She was supposed to be brutally honest about her experiences abroad.  It's what she had to do.  Those notes were personal and weren't meant for the public.  It's like a diary.
