Kurt Vonnegut is probably my all-time favorite.

Other ones that come to mind are Pat McManus, George MacDonald Fraser, Alan Moore, Shakespeare...Dan Brown is a guilty pleasure.

My favorite author is Louis Lamour who wrote many western novels.   What I consider unique about his writings were the ability to present a setting  real enough that you could  visit the area and picture  it in your mind.

Oh! I love Diana Gabaldon- if you have not read the Outlander series, I highly recommend it! I also love the classics like Jane Austen, Louisa May Alcott....
Frank McCourt is another favorite, his stories really draw you in!

James Patterson is my all-time favorite. I first read The Women's Murder Club series and have been hooked on him ever since. I love a good mystery and he has a way of making everything seem so real that you forget you're reading and not actually there!

F. Scott Fitzgerald closely followed by Ernest Hemingway.  Fitzgerald's use of similes and metaphors was exceptional. Simple things like character development related to the name and situational settings tempered by changes in weather made his stories extremely thought provoking and interesting.

There are several authors I admire, but my latest favorite is one that is maybe no so well known, but she is rapidly getting a following.  Her name is Sharyn McCrumb, and she writes in 2 or 3 different genres, but my favorite are her Ballad novels.  She writes novels but includes a lot of historical fact - dealing with Appalachia and mountain people, of which I am familiar, having been born and grew up in Virginia.  Her writing is lyrical, beautiful, and not soon forgotten.

 I have several authors but I really like Jean Auel. She writes about history stuff mostly native american. I also like to read Stephan King. But there are so many note worthy writers that actually it is extremely hardto choose one. I have interests in alot of different areas and it really depends on the mood I'm in on which author I choose to read at the time. :peace:
