Anyone here have great-grandparents that are still living?
« on: February 21, 2011, 09:45:18 am »
I have a 95 year old great-grandmother still living. She's in a nursing home now a few blocks away from where I live. She had stopped walking due to a cerebral hemorrhage when she was 91. I remember that she was a very great cook. No one's cooking was better than great-grandma's. I just feel so bad that she's in the nursing home. She's got 9 kids still living but the younger ones are in their 50's or 60's and they can't do much to help her either.

My 101 year old great grandfather. :)
He recently has had some health issues but he's doing okay considering.

My husband does.  His great grandma is still alive, and that makes her my daughter's great great grandma... and she is definitely great.  She just turned 85, and I just put together a compilation dvd slideshow of pictures from when she was younger, when her kids and grandkids were younger, set to music and we played it at her surprise 85th birthday party.  She still lives on her own in the same house where she lived with her husband.  Talk about a firecracker; I feel so blessed to know her.

No unfortunately I don't have any more great grandparents living. My last great grandfather died in 2005. I miss them all.

I don't have any great grandparents left.  But I remember one that was with us until I was in my late 20's and it was great I have some memories.  If you have a chance to know and learn from them you should enjoy it because everyday is a special day when you can learn and love someone.  My son had two great grandmas and two great grandpas. NOw he has only two great grandms left.  But the time that he had with them was special and will always be special to him.  He learned about things that he would not know about history and family form someon that has lived in the times.

I tell my husband all the time that he is lucky because he has his great grandma and both grandmas still around.  All four of my grandparents are gone, and one died before I was born.  I remember visiting my grandma in the nursing home when I was in high school, and I loved talking to her and to her roommate about their lives.  It gives you such a different view of the world and makes you realize how very small you truly are.  I wouldn't trade anything for those memories, and I cherish every moment I spend with my husband's great grandma... she even shows me some of her recipes, although I doubt I'll be able to make them as well even when I'm 60.

My spouse and I are older, so we no longer have any grandparents living.  My mother is still living, but my father isn't.

Both of my spouse's parents have passed on.

My great grandpa passed away about two weeks ago at 94. He was in great health and still took care of himself. He tripped on his oxygen tube and broke his hip. The day after surgery he was fine, but the next day he went downhill and did not know where he was or what year it was. It just deteriorated from there. It was pretty sudden, but I know we were blessed that he lived as long as he did in such great conditions.

I am a great grandmother to 13 great grand children.  I was a great grandmother when I was 60 years old.  What a day that was.  I am 69 years old now.  Still working and enjoying life.
