Cooking Chicken Wings
« on: March 02, 2011, 06:54:53 pm »
Everybody wanted fried chicken wings.  Okay, they came out great, but what a mess to clean up afterward!  I fried them in a deep skillet.  Even though I had a top on the skillet, it still made a mess when I had to turn them on the other side.  Does anybody out there cook theirs different?

I use a dutch oven filled about 1/2 way with oil. It's just like a deep fryer. If you have a splatter screen ( got mine at the dollar store) it saves on the mess. No need to turn them just move them around a little. Dump the oil in an old coffee can or other type of container that you can dispose of. Remember not to put hot oil into plastic.

Thank you, I probably didn't have enough oil, so the "splatter" was major. Deep frying is another way to go I guess. Next time at the dollar store I'll get a spatter screen.

I'd use a my deep fryer if I were frying wings, but I typically bake my chicken, or boil it if it's for chicken n' dumplings.  I'm gonna have some chicken n' dumplings tonight!  :P  Hmmmm.....fried chicken does sound pretty good though....

I bake my wings.  I use Texas Pete hot sauce & some melted butter mixed together and shake the hot wings and sauce together in a covered bowl.

Just like the recipe on the bottle says, right? My only problem is Texas Pete's comes from North Carolina and I live in Oregon.

I go to Hooters on Wednesday to have my chicken wings - all you can eat. Forget cooking at home

i don't even eat chicken wings but when i make them (for parties, etc) i bake them. i line a cookie sheet with foil and then i put a cooling grid on top spray it with cooking spray. i put the chicken wings on the rack and back them. that way they get cooked without getting soggy on the bottom and i dont even have to worry about turning them over halfway through

I bake my chicken wings because I don't eat a lot of fried foods .... I cut off as much skin as possible and usually coat them with seasoning and cook then in the oven in a cooking bag which keeps them moist and then I take them out and lay them on a cookie sheet lined with foil and broil them for a few minutes to make them crisp.... very little cleanup involved since all the sticky stuff is in the cooking bag you throw away!

I don't make wings myself I prefer *bleep* but my mother makes them sometimes with buffalo sauce.  It's really easy to make.  Just fry them then coat them in buffalo wing sauce.
