from city property to curb obesity problems.  I totally agree and think more cities should jump on board.

I  think as adults we have the right to chose what we drink and eat, yes it should be banned at school for kids becauce the do not make good choices.  I do not want to be told I can not have my one soda a day.

obviously you're going to be for this if you don't
drink pop to begin with, lol.

i completely agree. banning it from schools is one thing,
but as an adult, i'll take my diet coke (or my apple juice,
or whatever else i CHOOSE to eat or drink) wherever i please.

eh, it's really not about soda anyway, it's all about control  :dontknow:

I wish they would reach a little deeper and ban something with a lot more potential to do harm.
That 13th can of beer my d/h just drank cause more problems than my can or cans of soda ever will.  :P

where did you hear this?? Definitely interesting and seems like a noble effort...ban as in not allowed to drink? not allowed to buy??
Tough policy to enforce/manage for sure....

As someone already said, it's about control.  Alcohol has a nice tax to it already, so the government "benefits" from people drinking it.

This another attempt to take our freedom away. No one should be telling us what we can or can not drink. Also if I make the choice to drink soda then I must accept the consequences of that choice the added sugar and calories etc. The major problem is that many people  will not accept responsibility for their own actions they are always trying to blame others!!!

Nobody is taking anyone's freedom away. No one is saying you can't drink soda, all he's saying is that it won't be sold on city property

http://www.cityofboston.gov/news/default.aspx?id=5051

Personally, I think it's sort of stupid and a waste of legislative time when the city of Boston has far more pressing issues to address, but no one is taking away anyone's right to drink soda

I think instead of this, they should focus on creating incentive programs for healthier lifestyles. My health insurance gives me a bonus if I visit the gym 150 times in a year! Talk about preventative healthcare!

Once again some group of gum up the ment have decided that they know better than the folks that they are trying to represent and making choices that should be left up to the individual.  Can't wait for one of these silly groups to ban a color in the rainbow and try to charge mother nature with a crime.

Say goodbye to  our  freedoms.  The gov.  is telling us  where we can smoke cigars,  imposing fines for not have insurance, and now telling us we can not drink soda.  What will be next,  say hello to the new Russia and goodbye  to the American we lived in for centuries

One of the major contributions to obesity is not necessarily bad choices, but the high cost of living healthy.  Now, gym memberships can be expensive, but that's no excuse - just go for a walk.  What I'm talking about is the cost of fresh and perishable food.  Many families are forced to eat a high-sodium, high fat diet because it simply costs less.  A can of vegetables (off brand) can cost a dollar, while fresh vegetables can cost several dollars per pound.  Plus, their shelf life is considerably lower.  Many families looking to stretch their budget will buy large quantities of dry groceries that are on sale and have a very stable shelf life.  Also, highly processed fresh foods, like pre-packaged deli meats, or off-brand lower-quality deli products that have multiple preservatives and TONS of sodium are significantly less expensive then, say, name brand products that might not use as many additives and fillers.

If you look at a bottle of soda (Say... Sam's Club for $.55) and look at a half-gallon of orange juice that, when on sale, typically costs $2.50, which one are people bound to choose, economically?

I think they shouldn't ban the sale of soda on public property.  I think cities should find a way to make alternative, healthier beverages cheaper.  If that's even possible  :P
