Should we go back to neighborhood schools and who benefits
« on: April 23, 2011, 02:35:41 pm »
As a devout educator I am concerned about our (United States) our education system. It is my perspective that our government, Corporate America, the rich and poor alike, our society at-large, and lastly mis-informed citizens, are creating a re-cycle of segregation once again. Good, bad, or ugly it is here again. For my child, I will and can enter her in the best school, public or private, that is most fitting for her.  Everybody can't do that. It is also my perspective that those schools in favor of the elitist will always have a superior staff, facilities and all the things they need to accommodate our little darlings.  Yet, THE OTHER schools will be left behind.

Have you seen the doctumentary called Waiting for Superman? It is about the Educational System here in the United States. It is true that the "little" schools that we once went to, out vanishing and our children are not really learning at the highest level. The school system has begun to be really picky and choosing of what children they "think" should have a better chance at a better life. That is not fair. There are lotteries, and even yesterday, I heard that in the state of Oklahoma, there are schools that will actually spank a child!! Can you believe that? I will make sure that my son goes to one of the best private schools in the nation. Even if I have to work more than one job and earn a little cash here and there on the computer, it will be worth it. Once you see this documentary, you will think twice of where you put your child in school. It will break you heart.  :'(

Our school needs to change. Can we look at other 'superpower' countries to see if we can adopt their models?
