WHY WHITE NAILS?

How come sometimes my nail tips are pure white like I just got a french manicure professionally done and other times they are practically clear/see through?  Sometimes it even changes throughout the day...

i wish my nails were white like a french manicure. they sometimes are white but most of the time i can see right through them. must not get enough calcium in my diet but my nails grow so fast. i know im getting alot of something.

   I use Avon or Sally Hansen real nail polish strips. They are amazing! They dry fast and do not chip.
