I don't know how they do it.  I could never sit back and hear something going on and not do anything.

My dad was an abusive alcoholic when I was little and I always got into the middle of it when he would give my mom a hard time.  He got ahold of me a couple times but it was totally worth it.  No way would i be able to just listen to it and do nothing.

Some say Domestic violence is a crime of silence.

I say... maybe you're not hitting her hard enough.

Some believe they are the cause and they deserve it some like it and some had family or sexual issues in the past. The best anyone can do is try and help or even call a hotline anonymously if you wanna chance it.  :dontknow:

There are times when getting involved with a domestic violence victim can actually endanger their lives. The abuser thrives on iosating victims if he knows the victim has friends or is getting help they may become more violent. The trick is enpowering the victim providing a plan that will lead to getting away or stopping the abuse.

I am a very opinionated person, and I've called people out in public to purposly embrass them when they are being rough with their kids. It's not right and I DO NOT STAND FOR IT.

I have been a victim of domestic violence and I have a daughter who was also.  that is a very touchy subject because women who are abused were more than likely abused as children or for some unknown reason have a very low self esteem, making it easy for abusers to "put their spell" on them.  Most abusers wait until the person is really comfortable before they show their bad side, by that time the victim is hooked. There is a common misconception about abusers and the victims, that is abusers usually have two sides to them- like Jekyll and Hyde.  My abuser could be very loving, kind, and had some very good qualities, but on the other hand he was a monster and I mean the real kind.   People on the outside do not understand the relationship between the abuser and victim.  In order for most victims to get free they usually have to come to the end of their rope.  Kind of like a drug addict.  No amount of begging, pleading, or any other tactic anyone could come up with can get a victim to leave if she doesn't want to.  Mostly because the victim is comfortable in that relationship because it is familiar to her.  As for myself I did have friends and family that supported me and let me know that they were there for me, but once I got enough, sick and tired of the abuse the crazy roller coaster ride, I got off.  I was in the relationship for 10 years, 5 dating, and married for 5 years.
Their have actually been accounts where friends, neighbors, family, and law officers tried to rescue or "get in between" the abuser and victim and the victim turned on the people who were actually trying to help them.  That is why people are so reluctant to get involved in a domestic dispute.
What would be more helpful is to let a person who is being abused know that they do not have to stay, and that they have people who are there for them.
In order to prevent abuse we need more education on it, girls need to know when they are growing up that they are valued and are as  important as a man.  They need to have good role models and to be taught that no one has a right to hurt them, put them down, or criticize them.  Men need to be taught as boys how to be a gentleman, to value women, beginning with their mother and sisters.  Gosh I could go on all night about this subject so I better stop now.
By the way, very good topic! :notworthy:

I think for the most part, people don't want to get involved. Me on the other hand, I can't ignore any type of violence. Domestic, child abuse, anything like that. My heart won't allow me to do it.

I would say that this is the main reason! :) Many times even though the cops will go to the call there is ambivalence because they don't know if the victim will actually turn on them when they get there. Domestic violence calls are more dangerous for cops than robberies because they can never be sure who they have to watch out for.

Personally I would call it in but would probably not interject myself into the situation...it would depend entirely on who it was and what was going on exactly though with children I would be more likely to interject....I'm pretty sure I couldn't stand by and watch a child being beaten.
