Pet Lovers/Owners
« on: July 13, 2011, 09:45:32 pm »
What did you name your pet & why? There are people that keep the name of the pet that the shelter gave or they pick out a new name. Some name them after famous people or after favorite relatives. I have 2 pets/cats. Shadow & Splat. Shadow(Shadow Thief) got his name b/c when he was a stray, I only saw him in the shadows & ya he's 90% black with now some graying furs. Thief was added b/c he literally stole our hearts! Now, he's stealing food if you leave it w/out supervision! Splat got her name when shadow brought her home & she looked sick. The colors of her fur looked like someone just splatter all the colors randomly. Forensic File was also on talking about blood splatter evidence. Thus, she was dubbed the name splat after forensic files. The night we named her, we took her to the vet. $100 buckaroos for emergency visit! VET Dr. gave her a shot of antibiotics & the next day I found 2 aborted kittens in a box. I wonder if the Vet Dr. even knew she was pregnant. Anyway, that's the episode of when I received, named, & adopted my 2 cats. LoL, & I'm not a cat person either but they literally walked into my house & chose me to be their human parent.

:dog: What's your story on the naming of  your pet? Love to hear it!:bunny: :cat:

I named my kitten Juliet because I thought she looked like a Juliet. Pretty, young, naive, etc.

My pet cat was named Peanut by his previous owner because he was the runt of the litter.   Since I have had him, he has gotten to be quite a normal size.   :dog:

I've had many pets.  I wasn't very imaginative as a kid.  I usually name my pets for their color and/or personality.

Seymor - Eastern box turtle - was sitting on the side of the highway, trying to see more.  Also the name of the bluebird mascot for Bluebird charter bus lines.

Blackjack - black manx  :cat:
Gremlin - had big ears and got into everything, she persistently did what she wanted even if I objected  :cat:
Chester - russian blue manx - named for his look alike grandfather  :cat:
Tiny - runt, outgrew the name  :cat:

Snippet - a wee snippet of a dog - part rottweiler so she outgrew the name  :dog:
Bear - black lab cross that looked like a bear cub  :dog:
Silkie - Aussie cross tri-color - I asked "what should I name you?" and the name Silkie came to mind  :dog:

Tuffy - ginger tabby stray-born to strays Butterskotch (ginger tabby) and Mistoffleas (named for the magic cat in Cats) Tuffy was originally named Taffy, but when I took him in and turned him over...  :cat:
Nilly - vanilla colored (ginger tabby)  :cat:
Missie - black calico, looked like she pulled her father's tuxedo coat on over her mother's ginger coat and bust out in a few places, named after her father Mistoffleas  :cat:
Cali - calico

Hobbit - siamese cross - only a half pound when I took him in - originally named Lit'l Bit because he was a little bit behind his sister, he outgrew his name  :cat:
Sweetie - Hobbit's sister - over a pound when I got them - she was just so sweet I kept calling her that
Buster - Hobbit & Sweetie's baby (oops) - I asked him what I should call him and I got "Buster" in my head, he was adamant, and asked for a green collar as well.  He died young.  :cat:

Magic - black tuxedo like Mistoffleas from Cats, which is touring again  :cat:
Bobbin - gray tuxedo, 3/4 the size of his brother Magic - name comes from the movie Willow, Willow, an Elwin, called his children his "little bobbins".  I expect he too will outgrow his name.  :cat:

I have a male dachshund which is 5 months old now. I have named him Shadow because he been following me like a shadow for the 1st few weeks. He is black and brown just like a rottweiler. He has been my best friend and my only friend. Everyone else don't really want anything to do with me :(

I grew up with so many cats and as an adult, still have cats.  I liked what CharmedPhoenix did with a list of the cats' names and what they mean.

Callie - (beautiful calico)  **@ CharmedPhoenix: "Great minds think alike!"

Chestnut (Chessie, for short) - siamese, chestnut-colored; also named after the Train System "Chessie Lines" (logo was a picture of a sleeping
                                                             kitten snuggled in a blanket)

Gracie (grey and white with a gray beard - she was female so she became Gracie (aka Gray-cee)

Thomas (Tom for short) - named after the family I babysat for and later found out at a mutual family reunion that we were related

Tiger - (tiger markings)

Batman - (tortoise-shell cat with a masked face)

Kittiya - (Batman's sister, named by our 3 year old [at the time] granddaughter)

Boots - (black cat with white feet)

Our cat's name is Miracle, because our friend who gave him to us, said that he was the only one born from the mamma cat, and that he was born in her drawer under her bed, and it was 2 weeks before she discovered him in the drawer.  She said it was a miracle that he lived there that long, and she kept wondering why the mother cat kept coming into her room and going under the bed to the built in drawers.  So she and her husband slept in there over a baby kitten for two weeks not knowing he was under them.  lol

And believe me, he's living up to his name too,

I love those pics! I think "hiding the evidence" was the best!

My dog is named Joni by her original owner. I don't know the origin, although I have heard from our mutual friend that her full name is "Joan of Bark"....

My friend that is a manager of a liquor store has some interesting names for her cats: Pinot Noir (since the cat is black, or noir in French), Cheese (as in Bleu Cheese since he is a British Blue), and Cracker (since the cat is white, and that is the slang for white, honky crackers!). Cheese died last fall so she got two more and hhas continued with the food theme: Tater Salad (another creamy white with light yellow areas, although because he's been eating so much and getting a little overweight, he's becoming Chunky Tater Salad) and Ratatouille (or Raters for short mostly because his small size and grey fur make him look like the rat Remy in the movie Ratatouille. Other contenders for his name include Remy itself as well as Smoky G. (as in Smoked Gouda cheese))

I named my cat Dante, Do you remember the movie Dante's Peak. She was rescued by my Son in law which was a Volunteer Fire fighter. She was in a tree and only about 5 week old. She got out of the house where she was born and a dog chased her. When My son in law tried to remove her from the tree, she hissed and fought him every step of the way. She was brought to the pound and we adopted her about a month later. They would not release her because of shots and her age. My son in law said she was like a Volcano errupting, that's why I called her DANTE.
