that's is really scary!  it's so hard to know in advance, but i guess that's how we all learn.  many moons ago, my oldest son wanted shrimp for his birthday dinner.  that's how we found out he was allergic to shellfish! scared the living day lights out of us.  i hope all is well for the child now!  good luck!!!

It is difficult with children, even if you speak with your doctor or pharmacist first. Sometimes a small test just on the back of the hand, say a couple drops, would indicate if there is a potential for a reaction.I am an adult allergy sufferer and still find new things from time to time. It is not fun or pretty. Once there is one known allergy though, it is a good idea to have them tested for a whole battery under physician supervision. My poor nephew suffers from peanuts, to eggs, to milk products since he was a child. Originally the doctor thought he might outgrow it, but he is now 8 and my sister has tried to slowly introduce small bits of various foods to him but with no success. The doctor says he may still outgrow these allergies in time, but at this point can not predict how much time. or he may never outgrow them. It makes a little more work for meal preparation and the child has been taught as well as school personnel, and friends parents, that he must ask and know what is in anything before eating it. So far no surprises or accidents when he has been away from home. Patience and a lot of educating is needed for both the sufferer and those around him/her. Good luck on keeping things under control. Unfortunately there isn't always medication available, some are also allergic to the number one treatment Benedryl, which is a bummer. When that is the case, one hears the advise I have heard all my life regarding perfumes and colognes, just avoid. Very hard to do in our society when you work with the public. Thank You Very Much Yes She is safe but now grandmom is afraid to let her out of my site ! Her Parents are very young and irresponsible so i guess im going to have to pay atenetion but she has had no more problems, she has taken amoxicillan before but this time they added something with potassium! I`m Wondering if the pharmicist messed up!

My daughter had an allergic reaction to hay. At least thats what we assume the allergy was. I had never seen anything like it. Her entire face was just so swollen up she could barely see. I was terrified and rushed her right in to the doctor. He said nothing much to do but Benedryl and time. It is so scary when a child goes through this. I imagine with medicine it would be even worse. Sorry you have to go through that.

Thank you ,it is extremely scary! My kids tell me all the time, Mom you are such a worry wart. But I would rather be safe then sorry!!!!

yes it was however dr had us try it second time and no reaction at all .Dr said maybe it was because of something she ate prior to the medicine!I don`t know!

I use to work in an allergy and asthma office.  It was amazing to see the wide variety of what people were allergic to.  I always felt bad for those people that had to come in every week and get a shot.  I agree it's scary!

One of my grandsons friends is allergic to nuts so all of his friends and my grandson are very in tune to him asking about what is in the food and he does not even trust any of that junk food he is so good he would much rather do with out. Hope all is well now and in the future

My kids and I have no allergies, so it never even crosses my mind to keep other kids away from things. The one-year-old neighbor kid came over while my daughter was eating a peanut butter sandwich. He grabbed her sandwich and started licking the peanut butter off. I wiped off his face and gave him some milk. We went outside to play and the poor kids started coughing and his lip and face blew up like a balloon. I was just about to grab him and run across the street and his mom showed up. I asked if he had allergies. She said yes and it included dairy and nuts. Boy I felt bad. She had to take him to the doc to get a shot. She said it was her fault for not telling me, but I should have paid more attention.
