I remember being pretty annoyed that we were wasting a whole school day watching the news when it happened.  Like, just let me go home then!  lol  Typical teenager.  ;)

The use of the word anniversary has always bothered me regarding September 11 and I prefer words like 'commemoration' as the former sounds too much like a celebration to me and the later invokes remembrance.  I watched it live and still cannot shake the images of people deliberately leaping too their doom to escape the more painful death awaiting them if they stood fast.  Such desperation and fear they must have felt to choose such an action causes me pain to this day (and I am not a sensitive and sympathetic type).  I have not problems with war and the savage within me likes violence, but I cannot stand cruelty and have no stomach for suffering.
There are only 10 types of people in the world:  those who understand binary, and those who don't.

On September 11th, I became aware for the very first time in my life that there were people in this world so hateful and so vicious that they could kill innocent people to prove a point. In my whole life I was never so shocked. I became an American that day. America became my country. I felt united with this country and all the people in it like I never had before whatever our internal situation is we are one. That is the legacy of those who lost their lives that day.   :angel11:

I was in school that day when this happened but I was like in fourth grade so it didn't impact me like it most people, wait maybe I was in 3rd grade I graduated in may of 2010 so I was not even 10 when it happened almost turned 10 a month and four days later so I didn't understand what was going on.  I know my mother finally got married a month a one day after wards.  Of course she always wanted to get married but never found the right person she left my father and quit dating when I was born all she did was take care of our house work and take care of me.  She finally met someone through one of her clients in January of 2001 and they married Oct 12, 2001.  I know the affects of that day hurt us today I do feel and understand that, but I was a young child who was shielded by my mom and grandparents.

I heard about it on the radio in the morning. However I thought it was some kind of skit or joke like they do every morning on that radio station. I went and took a shower and when I got out my family was watching the TV and seeing the footage. It didn't hit me very hard because I don't know anyone on that side of the country it felt a million miles away from all that was happening in my life. I went to school as usual and they watched the news and talked about the event most of the day. Most of us had never been to the East Coast or knew anyone from there in our small town. It was a weird day.

I was in middle school when it happened, I believe I was in 8th grade at the time. We were all watching it on the news that morning. Its too bad we are united only when a natural disaster or something like 9/11 hit us. Then, we just return to our daily life and ignore each other. We should always be united since day one and help each other.

My father was the Chief of the fire department in Trenton, NJ and was working that day.  I was in 3rd grade and distinctly remember my mom coming to school and picking up my brother and I.  She dropped us off at my grandparents where we talked to our Dad on the phone.  He told us he loved us and missed us, but wouldn't be home for a while.  He was gone for 3 days, I later found out that they had flown the president to him and he wasn't allowed any contact aside from the people that he was with.  At 8 years old, I knew that my dad might not come home and was so grateful that he did.

10 years later, I'm an educated, 18 year old- who has spent the last 3 years of her life dedicating each and every moment to being a volunteer firefighter and EMT.  Today, I sit here and weigh the options involving flying to Texas and helping with the wildfires.

On September 11, 2011, I will stand tall with my brothers and sisters- and remember all those that we lost that day.  I will smile, laugh, and cry at the memories that surround that day and the years that followed.  But most importantly, I will never forget.

It is hard to believe that its been almost 10 years!   I was 5 months pregnant with our 2nd child and watching TV when the breaking news happened.  My husband was cutting grass when I ran out to tell him!  Unreal....completely unreal.  How a human being can be so cruel.

A lot of my Polish lineage lives in New Jersey so I was there in Jersey and New York the week before 9/11 for a family reunion.  I remember taking the ferry and looking at the trade towers and there was a discussion as to whether or not we should go to to the top and look out.  As I recall it was about 10-15 dollars to take the elevator to the top and look around for a certain amount of time.  I went to the top when I was 6 and never went again.  9/11/01 was my brother's worst birthday ever and I remember beginning to call him to wish a Happy Birthday when I was watching the news and saw on live tv the other plane crash into the other tower.  I don't believe I ever ended up making that call or wishing him a Happy Birthday, everything paled in comparison to what was unfolding before my eyes.  I am looking forward to the new WTC and hope that it honors those whom have died.

I was in middle school too, but in 6th grade. We were reading a short story when the PA broke the news. As a person born and raised in the eastern side of North Jersey, it was a pretty surreal and sad feeling.
